It's time for some terraforming!
In this episode, we both began and put down a new project. A big project. A green project.
Mossification!
I was getting tired of looking at this bare dirt all over my hillside and thought I'd make some efforts to beautify the place by completely re-doing the hill. I knew as I picked it up that it would be a big project... but honestly, I didn't expect it to consume two full weeks of my gaming time and still only be halfway! Hooo-leeee-shit this is a massive undertaking!
That said... this is what we started with. The normal baseline hill you've seen a thousand times over if you've played any amount of Minecraft. It's decent, but like... look at how brown it is! From my beach, every time I looked up at the house this was what I saw.
Being summer now, I've been outside a lot with my family and with green hills all around the province, this little eye-sore was a real firm reminder of fall and winter muck and mud - so naturally, it had to go.
Here we have a bit of progress made. It blends a lot better I think, which reinforced my desire to undertake this task. By this point, I've also burned through nearly all my reserves of moss.
Despite the rain, I really think this looks a lot better.
Feeling good about my choices in life, I continue busting ass on moss placement. But, as the mossification continues, my stockpile of resources drops. I'm beginning to have a brand new respect for just how large some of the generated terrain is.
I'm also by this point pretty tired of breaking hoes on manual moss harvesting.
This little setup does the trick when you don't need much at a time, but really starts to pale when you have to replace a fucking massive hillside. Why oh why god did I sign myself up for this?!
So, enough of that manual shit. If it can be grown, it can be automated!
With this I will save the world. Or my fingers. Maybe both?
With most of my building materials gathered, I popped over to my flower farm with an idea of expanding it... only to find out I had grossly underestimated how big this farm was. But that's okay, because figuring out what kind of dimensions I need is exactly what a test world is for!
Not too bad, all in all. I could probably fit it into a smaller area but... I'm running with a converted Shulkercraft build on this one, so figured I'd mostly stick to the design specs.
A bit of trial and error later and we're off to the races. It works! Moss for days baby!
With the automation completed, it's back to the grindstone replacing and covering dirt up. As of today, I think I've replaced easily a few thousand or so blocks? Looking at my stats in game shows 5,900 or so "times used" for moss, which I am guessing translates to how many times I've plopped one down, and as this is almost entirely the width and breadth of my moss usage... well, you can see why as of today I am going to take a small break to work on a different project.
So, as of today, the hillside terraforming is on hold and it's currently looking like this:
From our original:
A pretty nice little improvement so far I think! On our to-do list for finishing the Mossification project, I'll be adding some vines, grasses, and trees to our hillside along with some more texture once I manage to put together a bunch of green concrete powder, which I think will look really good mixed in amongst the moss.
Maybe the take-a-break project will be gathering the materials for said concrete powder... or maybe I'll head off and work on the NPC village to make some new houses - I haven't quite decided.
Anyhow, as always... until next time - Happy Gaming!
