In the last episode of Sky Islands Survival Series, we failed to bring back a couple of pigs from the Tiago biome island to our home island. Our mob farm didn't even work as well, so we decided to enter the Nether to see if our luck would change in the new dimension.
Let's continue where I left off last time. We found a small floating island in the Nether dimension. It was a Warped Forest biome. And we made many boats to capture and kill them to obtain their ender pearls.
Just like every other island in the Overworld, this island in the Nether also had a small cave with a lot of ores. Most surprisingly, it had multiple ore views of Ancient debris. For the first time, we had more Ancient debris than diamonds or emeralds in a Minecraft world.
We mined all the gold, nether warts and ancient debris from this island and collected a few stacks of ender pearls. It was time to move on to the next island. Or so we thought.
When we were bridging out from this island, a ghast spawned, and it shot me into the void. We knew that something like this could happen, so we weren't carrying anything precious with us. All the riches were safely stored in a chest on that island.
The next biome we found was a Crimson forest island. It was filled with Piglins, Zombified Piglins and Hoglins. They kept spawning again and again, and that gave us an idea to make a mob farm right there.
It was the first time I found out that Zombified Piglins don't even take lava damage or any kind of fire damage. I felt like an idiot for playing this game on and off for years and didn't know this simple fact.
This island also had a lot of Ancient debris buried under. We mined all of that and safely transferred all of those precious ores to our base in the Overworld. Look at how much Ancient debris we got at the end.
I made a simple mob farm in the middle of that island. This was the best way to get a lot of experience relatively easily. I didn't watch any tutorials for that, and it was fun testing out different strategies and learning what works best for this kind of farm.
It was a good source of gold, which Zombified Piglins dropped. Iron was very rare, and all we could get was by trading gold with Piglins. That's the reason why I love the new Bronze armour. They give at least some protection in the early game or in this kind of situation where iron is an expensive commodity.
We were getting more confident travelling from our base to these islands easily. We even tried to link a nether portal, but it was spawning in the middle of nowhere.
Back at the base, our crops were looking good. We had a big wheat and sugarcane farm.
We made the rest of the bookshelves needed to complete our enchanting setup. I never thought piglins' leather trades would prove useful someday. But we didn't have enough diamonds to make good armour, so we made a few tools and enchanted them. The diamond axe proved to be the most useful.
I went to the tiaga biome to see if any other helpful mobs spawned. After waiting for a while, a couple of cows spawned there, and that would be a great leather source in the future.
We trapped them inside boats and safely transported them to our island. It was a delicate process, and we didn't want it to end up like those pigs who died in the process a few days ago.
A bunch of wolves spawned in that taiga biome as well. Looked like this was the best biome for passive mobs to spawn. I am not sure why this is different from my home's plains biome, but I am not complaining.
That's it for this episode. We still didn't find the Fortress in the Nether, but the Warped fungus and Crimson Forest biome is a good find. Trying to learn the ins and outs of the mob farm was a fun experience. I learned a lot more from that challenge than from years of playing Minecraft.
