The screenshots shown in this post contains spoilers from Resident Evil Village!
After finishing the story of Resident Evil Village around a month ago I've kept the game installed because I've been wanting to run the game again on higher difficulties. I had so much fun with this game that I wanted to collect all of the achievements for it. Apart from playing a little bit of the Mercenaries Mode I haven't really touched the game since finishing the story.
Now I finally went and started up New Game+ to give the game a go on the Hardcore difficulty. New Game+ is an option that opens up after finishing the game where you get to play the game again with all the gear and weapons you had when you finished the game. You also get to utilize all of the perks you get from the extra content shop. That also meant having some extra guns available from the in-game shop as well as infinite ammo for some guns.
Sadly the game wasn't fun the second time around. I started out by reaching the castle and couldn't make myself continue any further. I thought maybe it was because I had all the extra guns and infinite ammo which made the game kinda trivial. I restarted the game without New Game+ but it was the same. I guess once the mystery had been unveiled and the game doesn't have any surprises anymore it's not as fun.
I'm gonna give it one last shot in a couple of days to see if I have more fun, but until then it seems like my days with Resident Evil Village has come to an end. It's still without a doubt the best game I have played this year so far and I can see it being ranked as one of my favorite video games for a long time to come.
Photo Mode
One thing I never talked much about in my earlier posts was the photo mode. Those of you who have followed my posts for a while will know that I love me a good photo mode and Resident Evil Village has one. I'm sure that my playthrough of the game lasted a couple of hours longer than average because I took so many pictures.
It's really annoying that Capcom had to put their own watermark over all the screenshots but there's nothing that can be done about that. They could at least have made it less prominent.
It would be a real shame not to share them with someone so that's what this post is about. Celebrating the awesome visuals and detailed world of this fantastic game!
The Village
The Village is an important location in the game further strengthened by the fact that it's also the title of the game. It acts as a sort of a hub that takes you to all the different locations in the game. Every time you finish a location you go back to the Village where you're able to unlock new buildings and locations, uncover new loot and secrets as well as progress to the next stage of the game.
It's also a visually striking place and I felt like I always found new awesome visuals to photograph as I explored it. Here are some of my favorites.
The Castle
The Castle was probably my favorite location to play through. It wasn't just visually awesome but it was also greatly laid out. Another one of those places where it was hard to not take pictures. It also includes the awesome Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters.
The Doll House
The Doll House was probably the creepiest location in the game. It's also the smallest location in the game but what it looks in size it makes up for in quality. While the chase sequences with Lady Dimitrescu was stressfull enough they're nothing compared to what lurks in the basement of this house. They really did a good job with the atmosphere in this place.
Moreaus Sunken Village
Moreaus part of the village was perhaps my least favorite part, mostly because it was so linear. Now this is a linear game but the other parts of the game lets you explore several rooms and side areas freely, but the Sunken Village didn't have a lot of that. It also didn't look as good as the other areas. Still I was able to capture some sweet shots.
The Factory
For some the factory was their least favorite part of the game due to the confusing layout. I never had a problem with it and thought it was cool all the way through. It had some of the coolest and toughest enemies in the game for sure. I remember that I played through this part in one sitting and when I was done I had barely noticed that two hours had gone by.
Mother Miranda
Having defeated the four lords we finally get to meet the one behind all of this. Mother Miranda. We get a lot of answer and also get to witness one of the coolest boss fights I've ever seen in a game. It wasn't necessarily mechanically good but holy smokes did it look good. I spent most of the fight taking pictures like a mad man and I don't regret it for one second.
Do you have any favorites from my showcase? The ones with Mother Miranda and a few of the Factory shots with the hanging Soldats are probably my favorite. It's hard to chose though.
