Progress is zooming along in The First Descendant. I'm now closing in on 40 hours played in just 10 days. It's safe to say this game has completely consumes me. Some spend their summers making memories at the beach. I spend them making memories in games.
Pyromaniac
The Pyromaniac is the 6th Intercept Boss in The First Descendant. He deals fire damage which shouldn't be a big surprise considering his revealing name. Because of this he's also very weak to cold damage which makes a lot of sense. I of course built my character and weapons to match this before I attempted to defeat him.
With my experience from the previous two bosses fresh in mind I expected that fighting solo would be easier but I decided to give it a go in a public lobby anyways. We didn't even stand a chance and it was 10 minutes of pure wasted time. I immediately tried again in a private lobby and I managed to defeat him on my first try. At this point I'm convinced the bosses are just way overtuned in public when the group is full. I refuse to believe that every single person I've been teamed with is an idiot who doesn't know how to read and build a character to match a boss' attack and weaknesses.
White-night Gulch farming
With the Pyromaniac defeated I'll now be able to fully access the White-night Gulch zone. I'm quite excited for this as I've seen it contains a lot of the materials that are needed to unlock a few of the Ascendants that I've been wanting to get from the start. I'll probably take a while to farm out some Ascendant parts and weapons here before moving on. I have a few parts for Sharen already and if I remember correctly I'll be able to collect the parts for Jayber once I farm a little bit in this zone. Sharen is a stealth assassin while Jayber has turret as a part of his skillset. They sound pretty cool to use so I'm looking forward to unlocking them.
If you've read my posts about this game you'll probably notice that I don't talk a lot about the story. That's simply because it's so uninteresting that I've been skipping all the dialogue. The gameplay really is carrying this game on its back. There's been some cool cutscenes and cinematics but that's mainly it. Once I'm done with the campaign I'll probably find some YouTube video that summarizes the story in 20 minutes just so I have an idea of what's going on. Luckily the gameplay is so good that I'm able to see past the abysmal story. It's not why I downloaded the game anyways.
I'm curious to see if I'll hit a wall where I just grow instantly tired of this game or maybe I'll burn out at some point. At least I'm playing other games at the same time to get some variety. I'm closing in on the end to Lies of P and I downloaded No Man's Sky yesterday but haven't gotten around to trying it yet. Expect to see some of that soon.
