After leaving the Emerald Grove it didn't take long for me to stumble upon the next part of my grand adventure. I really have to commend the game for giving us players so much stuff to do all the time. Everywhere you go you'll find something of interest or something that you have to deal with. It's almost impossible to get things done properly because there's so many things to get us side-tracked. It's the perfect iteration of Dungeons & Dragons.
I could probably make a monster of a post out of this one location but I'm going to try and keep it to a summary. Forgive me if I fail.
Fooling the Goblins
Having heard so much about goblins in the Emerald Grove I wasn't very surprised when they tried to ambush me as I walked through the village gates. A small pesky creature tried to threaten me into either leaving the place or face the consequences. I instead turned the tables on him by convincing him I was an officer of his god after which he gave me free entry into the town. In his eyes I was now an ally. Goblin fool.
This small village had a lot of stuff going for it. I think I spent almost 4 hours exploring all the nooks, crannies and secrets that this place help. It mostly help secrets. Hidden cellars to raid for loot and even a necromancers hidden lair. I also got myself some ogre friends. Who would have thunk.
The main attraction for me in this village was the gnome the goblins had pinned to a spinning windmill. I of course had to save the poor bastards but I have to give it up to the goblins for their sense of humor. I was contemplating leaving him up there but in the end I rescued him. I was able to threaten the goblins to leave the area and let me take him down without bloodshed needing to happen. This is the upside of playing a character with high charisma. Intimidation and persuasion comes naturally to me.
For the most part this village left me with a lot of loose ends without tying up any old ones. I found a cursed necromancers book in a cave under a house that I wasn't able to open. I also spoke to a group og ogres that had a deal with the goblins. They fight for the goblins and then get to eat the victims. I convinced them to leave the goblins behind and do this work for me instead. I now have ogres on my side that will come help me if I blow a horn. Quite quaint. I'm excited to see how both of these things will play out once I blow the horn and manage to open the cursed book.
The funniest part of the whole village was the bugbear and ogre fucking in a barn. The level of surprise I felt when I opened that barn door to see the two of them going at it on the floor was something I haven't ever experienced in a game before. It's probably for the better that I came and interrupted them cause the ogre was way out of the bugbears league anyways. It's also kind of regrettable seeing as they got so mad I had to kill the both of them. Their act of love became their last act.
I did also uncover some information about the real goblin camp. It's a bit further north from here and they have three leaders that I have to take down. The goblins just told me all of this thinking that I'm on their side after I managed to fool them at the village gates. Goblins really are dumb.
Now I'm going to do some exploring around the wilderness before I head up to the goblin hideout. I wonder if I'll be able to persuade them to let me in like I did here in the village. They're most likely dumb enough.
