Once you have created your account in splinterlands and purchased the starter pack. (if you do not want to purchase starter pack, then it is ok,but it is necessary to earn and take part in tournaments.)
Once you created your account and recived all your keys (remember do no lose these keys, these are your passwords). Play for some time to get some idea of game.

Since splinterland is card game and combining the same cards (in required number) increase the level till it reaches the maximum level. Your starter set also do not give you all cards because some cards are rewards card and some cards are present in the booster packs only.
Here the concept of "rent" come int play. You can get those card that are lacking in your inventory by simply taking them in rent and paying the rental fees of the card.
For taking cards in rent you need to log into the peakmonsters.
Since this also on top of steem blockchain, you can use your "posting" keys to login into it.
Aftr "login" click on "profile".
Deposit steem or sbd there because this will be used to pay the rental fees.
Now go to "Market"
You will see the option of rent against each card , click on the rent option of your desired card.(Do not forget the card level, it is also very important).
There are so many cards in peakmonster market and scrolling them do not make sense when you already know the card name. So help you out there are many filter option in right side of screen. Apply these filter option to narrow down the card listing.
If you still do not want to buy a starter ..
Now, still you are not sure that you should spend $10 and buy the starter pack then you have still option of playing using "Heron's Program" (not run by game developers or splinterland team) but this is for experienced splinterland's player.
