Today's post is about my battle with the Black Knife Assassin after completing losing track of a magic scarab beetle in Altus.
Altus is basically the land of autumn, lots of oranges and yellows -- something about this region is tiring. The video starts off with me grabbing some runes near a field of swords where I wish I could say I got killed by a Leyendell Knight but the reality is I got killed by an electric sheep haha
~
I see a pair of scouts so I try get them both with Black Flames incantation's splash damage -- love the animation for this spell.
~
Somehow only one goes down and the remaining scout just hacks away at me and Torrent like he's trying to avenge his fallen friend.
~
Sometimes I can't explain how much I hate Torrent because of how inconsistently weak or strong it'll be -- strong enough to brush off a dragon's attack but weak enough to get temporarily killed by the weakest human enemy.
~
Oh wow ... this is embarrassing. Pretend you didn't see this picture of me missing the scout completely with my sword.
~
And ... here I am missing a scarab beetle with my Lightning Spear incantation. What the hell is going on with the targeting in this game?
~
And then to add insult to injury, a ram attacks me from behind!
~
I fast travel back to a nearby grace site hoping to get the scarab when I respawn.
~
Here I am back at a more Eastern part of Altus.
~
Grabbing lightning flowers while trying not to get electrocute!
~
I respawned to go back for a scarab beetle that might've contained a cool new ability but I see this building and remember there's a boss that I've been avoiding.
~
Not sure what to expect -- so I summon the dual sword-wielding Banished Knight Olegg to help out/distract the enemy.
~
The lore paints the Black Knife Assassins as these crazy dudes who could kill demigods in small groups so I'm wondering if all my time leveling up in Altus has prepared me for this fight.
~
Oleg rushes the boss while I wait to see what kind of attack pattern this guy has.
~
The Black Knife Assassin is pretty nimble so I miss while throwing my Black Flames incantation at him.
~
And this is him stabbing me super fast. This boss does this thing where he creates sparks by dragging his dagger on the ground before launching forward for a quick thrusting attack.
~
This is a new incantation I recently got from the Godskin Apostle at the Windmills in Northern Altus. Does a good deal of damage but the range is short and slanted so I have to be pretty close.
~
It's very effective but Black Knife Assassin feels like a glass-cannon type due to being a rogue-type enemy ... plus I've been leveling up at the windmills killing the cannibal grannies up there.
~
I get a bit too confident and Black Knife Assassin slices me up, reminding me that my hybrid character's more of a medium-range/long-range type.
~
I can't seem to get away but at least he's not one-shotting me.
~
Black Knife Assassin's so fast he still nicks me with this blade while I'm dodge-rolling so teleporting with Bloodhound Step is probably the better option here.
~
Oh god, this dude's going airborne now -- just when I thought all the swinging around of the camera couldn't get worse haha
~
Oleg's laying down some hurt so I take the chance to heal and the Black Knife Assassin sees his chance and rushes me!
~
The damage isn't too bad so I stick to offense and beef up my sword and fire magic with Flame Grant Me Strength!
~
Bullseye! I finally hit him with my Black Flames fireball and it does a nice amount of damage.
~
Now that he's at half-life, I know this boss is gonna be trying some new moves and that's when all I see is a weird flash of red-light ...
~
This weird miasma blade-strike attack was pretty wicked and took out a third of my life! Can't even really tell what's going on in this pic but I'm being overwhelmed by this energy attack.
~
There he goes, jumping into the air again!
~
Thankfully, Oleg interrupts this attack and I'm able to only receive a portion of the damage while dodge-rolling away.
~
I try to hit him with a Flame Frenzy spell but he's just moving around like he's hopping on air -- like I'm fighting an airbender from Avatar or something.
~
And after making a joke of my Flame Frenzy spell, he appears right beside me almost as if to taunt me.
~
Then I remember one of my faster spells -- Frenzied Burst -- and blast him with it to show that I got some speed too.
~
Black Knife Assassin's charging up his red energy move again ...
~
... And just when I've spotted the attack, he releases the energy strike from mid-air -- wiping out a third of my life again.
What a painfully cool attack!
~
This time I catch him with my Flame Frenzy spell which is odd but maybe he's a bit weaker after that last attack.
~
I try to join the close-range fray again but Black Knife Assassin's a speed demon, easily dodging Oleg, and dicing me up good.
~
I was worried about dying here.
~
Olegg knocks him to the ground with a stun attack so I help out and blast him with some laser-eye magic.
~
This boss is near death but he's still got some fight in him and jumps up high into the air.
~
My killing blow is a Dragon Claw attack where I summon ... a Dragon Claw and smash the ground -- killing the Black Knife Assassin!
~
Here's the shockwave and the claw-marks from the magic attack.
~
Victory!
~
I get a cool new dagger!
