Today I found myself stuck in some nostalgic feeling about how time flies and how it felt like yesterday when I was in college playing mobile multiplayer games with my roommate.
We both had a very high competitive spirit with one person wanting to beat the other at games for bragging rights and funny banter.
One of the many games we played was NBA2K19 which has a multiplayer feature powered by a hotspot and wifi connection. Back then, we could go hours playing this game and only leave our dorm room when we wanted to get some food and continue gaming.
The scoreline was endless and at some point, we even lost count.
So, in a nostalgic feeling, I had to go hunting for the game. One of my many stops was Google Play Store, which obviously no longer had the game.
What was I thinking, the game was over four years ago, and the 2k gaming company also pushes new builds every year. With this, I moved over to check the Palm App Store and other app stores, but zero results for the game NBA2K19.
At this point, I knew I had to resort to my last risky alternative, that is, download the game's apk from generic websites. Why call this alternative risky is because generic sites tend to come with viruses or malware.
Well, it is safe to do this if you trust the site or have a strong antivirus on your mobile device. Unlike me, I don't have either but the good thing I have is the mobile device I am downloading the game on is my spare. Nothing serious on the device I can't afford to lose.
Finally got a site that has the game's apk and I downloaded it immediately. Upon launching the game to play, I realized a lot about the game I had loved so much in the past. You don't need an internet connection to play unlike the recent NBA2K which needs an internet connection and your gaming experience is subject to how strong your internet is at the moment.
How the game has a multiplayer feature that does not require any player to be online but rather within close distance from one another, although being within close distance was the only flaw, at least it allowed for some gaming trash talk.
I understand the constant need for evolution and as humans our needs change as technology advances. We tend to need more, something faster and better and even better graphics. Still gaming companies need to create room for going back on nostalgic feelings and playing old games, instead of wiping them off to sell new ones.
When something is good, it will still be remembered and 2K gaming companies have slowly forgotten about this, constantly pushing yearly updates filled with more ads and features to push gamers to spend more aside from already buying the game. All in an attempt to boost profit and meet quarterly returns, forgetting gamers' feedback and an underlying market that isn't met. Well, it is the corporate circle.
