In search of Doomtrain (FFVIII)
In Final Fantasy VIII, GFs are magical creatures you can summon in battle. But their true importance is that you can junction the character's different abilities to them, building unique systems and stats. That way, not only can we learn new spells, but also special abilities and even the creation of certain resources and weapons. In my last playthrough, I had set out not to leave any GF behind, since many have complex acquisition methods; sometimes I give up on them, but I didn't want that to happen this time. One of the GFs with a complex acquisition method is Doomtrain, as it is only available starting from the third disc of the game and after following a very specific series of steps. The way to obtain it is to gather the Solomon Ring along with 24 items, items that are not exactly easy to find.

En Final Fantasy VIII, las GF son criaturas mágicas que puedes invocar en batalla. Pero su verdadera importancia es que a ellas se pueden enlazar las distintas habilidades del personaje, construyendo sistemas y estadísticas únicas. Así no solo podremos aprender nuevas magias, sino habilidades especiales e incluso la creación de ciertos recursos y armamentos. En mi última partida me había propuesto no dejar ningún GF detrás, ya que muchos tienen formas de obtención compleja; a veces desisto de ellos, pero no quería que pasara eso en esta ocasión. Uno de los GF que tiene una forma compleja de obtención es Doomtrain, ya que solo está disponible a partir del tercer disco del juego y tras seguir una serie de pasos muy específicos. La forma de obtención es reunir el Anillo de Salomón junto a 24 objetos, objetos que no se encuentran del todo fáciles.
As I said earlier, Doomtrain is not obtained in battle, you have to explore, search, and investigate to summon it. So we set off from Esthar on the Ragnarok towards the first location, Tears’ Point, located southeast of the continent.
Como decía anteriormente, Doomtrain no se obtiene en lucha, hay que explorar, buscar e investigar para lograr invocarlo. Así que partimos desde Esthar en el Ragnarok rumbo a la primera ubicación, Tears’ Point, ubicado al sureste del continente.
There, at Tears’ Point, in that circular structure, you will find the Solomon Ring.

Inside this area we will find different metal structures and we will simply have to keep moving forward, facing all the enemies that appear along the way.

The enemies will be quite varied and strong enough to cause us trouble, but nothing that can't be overcome by simply attacking and, of course, with the help of the GFs we have obtained. I used Cactilio and the Chocobos a lot. We can have encounters with: Behemoth: a very resilient mythical beast, Imp: a small mage that uses status magic, Iron Giant: a high-level warrior with great defense; Torama: a feline creature with special attacks, and Turtapod: a giant turtle with a very hard shell.

GF Boko is a very good ally against these enemies, especially if we have a high level. It is summoned simply by throwing Gysahl Greens, so I recommend always having some available.

Malboros are fearsome creatures because their attacks and bad breath cause too many status ailments at once, therefore, it will be common to have characters poisoned, blind, or asleep in a battle while all the responsibility of the fight falls on a single character.

We will be able to junction Doomtrain to any character, increasing their stats. It will also learn several very useful abilities: Auto-Shell, which will prevent us from taking damage; Vit 0, which nullifies enemy defense; Absorb, the classic attack that drains HP from the enemy; but most importantly, its attack Runaway Train will inflict almost all status ailments at once on our enemies. It was worth fighting those stinky Malboros.
