Many times a great game isn't evaluated by its graphics, sometimes not even by its story, since each video game strengthens the most important part, in the case of visual novels, without the need for a "gameplay" so to speak, manage to captivate with their stories and situations, in addition to the soundtrack that is usually relevant to create the necessary atmosphere, and more than one already knows the visual novel that I come to talk about today, or rather the main part of it.

Doki Doki Literature Club is a visual novel that was initially available for free, it went viral at the time, and last year was released an extended version with more story and things to discover, this one must be purchased though, but for now I prefer to talk about Doki Doki without the "plus".

The main content puts us in the shoes of a high school student with no name (since we name him), and basically he is the stereotypical datesim protagonist, he has a best friend named Sayori, and they have been friends since childhood. Sayori has her head in the clouds and is a somewhat "clumsy" girl, but like the rest of the girls in this game, she's cute.

Our protagonist, who from now on I'll call "Juan", is the typical otaku who doesn't bathe, plays video games and doesn't care about anything else, in short, he could be part of this community just like all of us haha (JUST A JOKE DUDE). But Sayori asks him to join a club, and as Juan has no idea which one to join other than the anime club, he decides to go to Sayori's club, which is the Literature Club (very obvious, isn't it?).

This club is actually very small, it only has 4 members as it's the minimum required to form a club, and they are constantly looking for new members, so Juan becomes the perfect prey for the 4 girls of the club, apart from Sayori who is the vice president, there is Yuri who is an introvert obsessed with literature, Natsuki who reads manga, and Monika, who is the president and founder of the club.

These 4 lovely girls welcome Juan with open arms, as in every good datesim, to call it that way, the girls are all HUNGRY and want to see his huge and thick DIC-tionary closer, even if they don't show it at first, we all know that's how it is, so they do their best to make Juan stay.

Between a rock and a hard place, Juan is really not sure about staying, but finally agrees to join the club and participate in the pending activity, writing poems, the girls will also write one and share them the next day, and this is the main gameplay of Doki Doki, writing poems.

Before starting each school day, we can select 20 words from a list, and these words will be more to the liking of one girl or another, as a result of this we can get to know the girls more day by day, in my case my poems appealed more to Sayori's tastes, although she and Juan are childhood friends so in theory they should already know each other well, for some reason, Sayori is very strange those days... (why would it be? :PepeSus:).

A curious addition to Doki Doki in this plus version is that it runs inside its own virtual machine so to speak, the game is like an operating system where you can play the novel, and also unlock content as you play, for example, there are additional stories separate to the main novel that strengthen the relationships between the characters, they are unlocked by dedicating poems to different girls, and so far I have only unlocked those of Sayori, I have to see what kind of story of the power of friendship awaits me here haha.

But if you don't want to buy the game, the free version is still a good choice, that way if you like it and want to see more, you know where to go, but for those who are looking for an eroge, you will not find any of that here guys, sorry.

Muchas veces un gran juego no se evalúa por sus gráficos, otras veces ni siquiera por su historia, ya que cada videojuego fortalece el apartado que más le interesa, en el caso de las novelas visuales, sin la necesidad de un “gameplay” por así decirlo, logran cautivar con sus historias y situaciones, además de la banda sonora que sí suele ser relevante para crear la ambientación necesaria, y más de uno ya conoce la novela visual de la que vengo a hablar hoy, o más bien de lo más principal de la misma.

Doki Doki Literature Club es una novela visual que inicialmente estaba disponible de forma gratuita, se viralizó en su momento, y el año pasado fue lanzada una versión extendida con más historia y cosas por descubrir, esta sí debe comprarse, pero de momento prefiero hablar de Doki Doki sin el “plus”.

El contenido principal nos pone en la piel de un estudiante de instituto sin nombre (ya que lo ponemos nosotros), y básicamente es el estereotipo de protagonista de datesim (simulador de citas), tiene una mejor amiga que se llama Sayori, y son amigos desde la infancia. Sayori tiene la cabeza un poco en las nubes y es una chica un tanto “torpe”, pero como el resto de chicas en este juego, es linda.

Nuestro protagonista, al cual de ahora en adelante llamaré “Juan”, es el típico otaku que no se baña, juega videojuegos y no le importa nada más, en fin, que podría formar parte de esta comunidad igual que todos nosotros haha. Pero Sayori le pide que se una a un club, y como Juan no tiene idea de a cuál unirse más que al de anime, decide ir al club de Sayori, el cuál es el Club de Literatura (¿muy obvio el título no?).

Este club realmente es muy pequeño, solo tiene 4 integrantes ya que es el mínimo requerido para poder formar un club, y están en la constante búsqueda de nuevos miembros, así que Juan viene a ser la presa perfecta para las 4 chicas del club, aparte de Sayori que es la vicepresidenta, está Yuri que es una introvertida obsesionada con la literatura, Natsuki que lee mangas, y Monika, que es la presidenta y fundadora del club.

Estas 4 encantadoras chicas reciben a Juan con los brazos abiertos, como en todo buen datesim, por llamarlo de alguna forma, todas están HAMBRIENTAS y desean ver su enorme y jugoso pen-samiento objetivo más de cerca, aunque no lo demuestren en un principio, todos sabemos que es así, así que hacen lo posible para que Juan se quede.

Entre la espada y la pared, Juan realmente no está seguro de quedarse, pero finalmente accede al club y participan en la actividad pendiente, escribir poemas, las chicas también escribirán uno y los comparten al día siguiente, y esta es la jugabilidad principal de Doki Doki, escribir poemas.

Antes de empezar cada día de escuela, podemos seleccionar 20 palabras de una lista, y estas palabras serán más del agrado de una chica o de otra, a raíz de esto podemos conocer más a las chicas día tras día, en mi caso mis poemas apelaban más a los gustos de Sayori, aunque son amigos de la infancia así que en teoría ella y Juan ya deberían conocerse bien, por alguna razón, Sayori está muy extraña esos días… ¿por qué será :PepeSus:?

Un añadido curioso a Doki Doki en esta versión plus es que corre dentro de su propia máquina virtual por así decirlo, el juego es como un sistema operativo donde puedes jugar a la novela, y además desbloquear contenido conforme vayas jugando, por ejemplo, hay unas historias adicionales separadas a la novela principal que estrechan las relaciones entre los personajes, se desbloquean dedicando poemas a diferentes chicas, y de momento solo he desbloqueado los de Sayori, me toca ver que clase de historia del poder de la amistad me espera a continuación.

Pero si no deseas comprar el juego, la versión gratuita no deja de ser una buena opción, de esa forma si te gusta y deseas ver más, ya sabes a dónde acudir, eso sí, para quien busque un eroge, aquí no hay de eso chicos, lo siento.
