Hey Hive!
If you didn't catch the last couple of posts, this is a new series where I write about games that I've played; what they're about and my experience playing them! I'll try my best to keep these posts short and sweet, hence the name; it's a reference to Games Done Quick (GDQ) - a charity speedrunning event!
Sorry for the delayed post! I got injured and had to spend the day at the hospital yesterday, unfortunately. But I'm feeling better now so let's get to it!
Since Steam was offering Injustice: Gods Among Us for free a couple days ago, I thought I'd give a quick review of the game for those who've never played it before!

So if you're unfamiliar, Injustice: Gods Among Us is a fighting game based on the fictional universe of DC Comics. The game was developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
STORY
The story mode in Injustice is actually pretty good. It is set in a parallel universe within the DC Comics' Multiverse. In this reality, Superman becomes a tyrant and establishes a new world order after the Joker tricks him into killing Lois Lane and destroying Metropolis with a nuclear bomb. In an effort to stop this, Batman summons counterparts of the League's members from another universe to join his insurgency and end the totalitarian regime.
Here's the story into if you don't mind spoilers (it's only 3 minutes so not to worry):
I remember being pretty shocked when I saw Superman go berserk. I didn't really follow the Superman movies or comics, but he's typically a goody-two-shoes, so it's quite shocking what he ends up doing.
GAMEPLAY
But anyway, the gameplay in Injustice is basically the same, story mode or not, and is quite similar to Mortal Kombat. You choose a character from the DC universe (although the game chooses for you in story mode) and fight on a flat stage until either you or opponent's HP is depleted. The game is set in a 2.5D environment: while character models and backgrounds are rendered in 3D graphics, the characters are restricted to fight within a 2D space.

GRAPHICS
Visually, Injustice is astoundingly detailed! From the character models, to the background assets, stage hazards and the cinematic cutscenes. Everything is very well-rendered and really demonstrates the power of Unreal Engine 3 for such a fast-paced game. Of course, the graphics might differ between the different systems, but in general, it looks good and smooth. The lighting in various scenes and environments are also well done, and I remember thinking the cutscenes look like they're straight out of a movie.

Injustice: Gods Among Us was released for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U in April 2013. An expanded version of the game, titled Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition was released later in November 2013 for PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360 and Steam. A free-to-play mobile app based on Injustice was also released for Android and iOS devices.
RECEPTION
The game received positive reviews from critics, who praised its story, gameplay mechanics, and use of the DC Comics license. Injustice became the highest selling game in the United States and United Kingdom during the month of its release. The game also won several awards for "Best Fighting Game" in 2013. A sequel, Injustice 2, was released in May 2017.

The first time I played Injustice was probably in 2014 or so, when I played through the story mode with a friend on the Xbox 360. It was good times; we quickly got really engaged with the story and would trade off between fights. I later bought the game on Steam in 2017 and played quite a few matches with my bf, and we would rage a lot whenever either of us got combo-ed pretty bad. But it was all in good fun.
I'd say Injustice is a really good couch co-op game if you're a fan of fighting games. It's only 1v1 but just seeing all the classic DC characters fighting it out is so cool. Trying out different combos with all the characters, each with their own unique attacks will definitely be a good time.
So if you got the game free a couple days ago but have yet to try it out, definitely give a shot with a friend! Your friendship might be put to the test but I guarantee you won't regret it. 😉
Thanks so much for reading!
