Why I like this deck?
Firstly, I give way too much weight to aesthetics over game mechanics than I should. The core of this historic style deck was inspired by the jump starter built from the dogs and legionaries packets. From there I mostly added spells and angels.
There's something very appealing about man and man's best friend fighting side by side for a just and celestial cause. It appeals to the lawful good child at the heart of this Neutral Good realist, I suppose.
Oh, also this was my first experience including a Saga, Elspeth Conquers Death, in a crafted deck.
So far, it has worked out as a reliable, well balanced deck. I guestimate that I win about twice as often as I lose with this one.
How I play this deck
There are a few different ways to play it and, as usual, a lot depends on the opening hand. Basically I've seen three basic openings:
- Lotsa dogs: strike hard and fast, basically play for agro
- Lotsa higher mana cards: Focus on building life until able to play the powerful
- If Staunch Shieldmate is playable immediately. Play it, then as above
