Hey everyone!
Now we’re entering Episode 3 of the Monster Hunter Portable 3rd series.
In this article, I want to share some basic tips for new hunters. Hopefully, these tips can help smooth out your early game progress.
Where Should You Focus Your Progress?
In MHP3rd, there are two main progression paths:
- Village Quest
- Guild Hall Quest
Best recommendation: start with Village Quest first.
Why?
- Monsters move slower
- Monster HP is lower
- Easier to learn attack patterns
- Great for testing different weapons
After finishing Village Quest, you can skip the final mission “The Last Supper” for now until your gear is strong enough.
Then move on to Guild Hall Quest, which is divided into:
- Low Rank (Equip Grade 1–3) → slightly harder than Village
- High Rank (Equip Grade 4–7) → significantly harder
Simple breakdown:
- Village Quest = Easy
- Guild Low Rank = Medium
- Guild High Rank = Hard
Once you have solid High Rank gear, go back and finish The Last Supper.
The Most Efficient Ways to Earn Money
If you like switching equipment often, you’ll run out of money quickly. Here are two of the most effective methods:
Farm & Sell Power Seeds
- Buy Power Seeds + Worms from the Village vendor
- If out of stock → refresh by doing quests
- Plant them → keep some → sell the rest
This is especially helpful for gunners, since ammo costs a lot in early game.
Mining in the Volcano
This is one of the best farming methods:
You can get:- Materials
- Charms (talismans)
- Rustshards (weapons)
- Pokke Points
Benefits:
- Materials can be used or sold
- Chance to get good talismans
- Weapons can be sold
- Pokke Points for farm upgrades
Best Combination Loop
Simple loop:
Plant → Mine → Harvest → Repeat
Very efficient for long-term progression.
Upgrade Your Farm ASAP
From the start of the game, prioritize upgrading your farm.
Why?
Because farm resources will be useful even into late game.
Focus upgrades on:
- Farm plots (for Power Seeds)
- Beehive (Honey → Potion & Catalyst)
- Bug Tree (Bitterbug → Dash Juice)
You’ll need these materials in large quantities, so it’s best to start early.
Buffs Matter More Than You Think
Don’t underestimate buffs—they can make a big difference in hunts.
Onsen & Drink Buffs
- Complete quests from the old lady in Guild Hall
- Unlock HP & stamina buffs
- Get additional effects from drinks
Charm Setup
Always carry:- Power Charm
- Armor Charm
Once you get Deviljho Talon:
- Combine them for stronger versions
- Buy the charms again
You can carry all of these:
- Powertalon
- Armortalon
- Power Charm
- Armor Charm
Stacking buffs = higher damage & defense.
