Getting slaughtered here
Now back at Fortress Fogwatch and eager to complete this quest while killing whatever comes at him, Octharg the Destroyer finds out quickly, just how hard this place really in, especially in the courtyard defending the place. He makes it up the path from the gate to the courtyard, to then be greeted by a Spectral Apothecarius, a deadly spirit that isn't happy with his presence and brings a tough fight.
"Prepare to meet spectral steel!" the spirit said as he lunged forward.
"You bastard, how did you get so strong? how about you take this! My mighty spectral battleaxe to slice you up!" Octharg replied while taking a big swing and dealing just as much damage as he got hit with.
By this time, the Ice Elemental had come back around after the summoning put it off to the side, taking its time to come to his aid.
Defeating that first spirit prompted a quick save spot and a worry as to how many times a death will occur. Just inside the courtyard were more enemies and a Fleshless Lost One was first to be taken out before an attack came from another spirit. The damage wasn't quick enough to come out, the spirit came quickly and with deadly force to ensure a swift death to Octharg.
Upon reviving and taking a moment to compose his thoughts, he prepared for the fight once again.
"So tough to defeat and tactics like the ones used on the other were needed, but this time I will bring out an old friend that can actually do damage to the spirits" he thought to himself.
A new summoning of old happened, it was the Mud Elemental due to spirits resisting the damage from the Ice Elemental, plus this one is pretty good at getting the job done like it used to.
The focus was on the elemental this time around which allowed Octharg to be dealing damage and working on taking out the rest of the enemies, before being able to go inside. It turned out to be the right strategy, as the Spirit lost a lot of health quickly before its painful death along with the Fleshless Lost One, with the Mud Elemental almost joining them.
"Phew was that tough, but finally I can breathe knowing I have cleared out the courtyard and can heal and enter Fortress Fogwatch for more painful fights."
Inside Fogwatch Fortress is dark and filled with additional spirits and Lost Ones, which is quickly found out upon shooting the Awoken Lost One for a sneak attack bonus damage, that leads to a spirit and Fleshless Lost One to attack and kill our mighty villain as he was not prepared to get enough damage out before his Mud Elemental died off and was focused on, leading in yet another death.
"I have successfully gotten through the start of this dreadful place and killed some more enemies. Better heal on up as there will be more further in and then the quest leads to a laboratory which I have been told is filled with multiple spirits as well" said Octharg while pondering on why he accepted this quest.
He summoned his Mud Elemental out in front when he was in a hallway just up ahead, allowing it to be attacked and to deal damage. Sneak attacks won't work on this spirit due to the spot it was in around the corner, but others could be weakened with sneak damage before taking them out. It was a rough set of hallways and rooms but in the end, it was strategy that ensured victory and reaching the Fogwatch Fortress Laboratory.
Fogwatch Laboratory
He had forgotten to summon his friend to soak up damage and regretted it right away, as soon as damage was sent at the spirits, because three Spectral Apothecarius' were coming at him and not happy to have been disturbed.
Octharg did as much damage as he possibly could before being taken out in this first fight and remembering with his revival, to summon the Mud Elemental right away, before attacking.
The next fight saw one spirit die pretty quickly before Octharg jumped down and did a re-summoning so the fight could be finished off down low and give time to attack another one by itself. Turns out enough damage was done that a second upstairs had burned to death and left this final spirit to deal with. If it wasn't for the damage being absorbed by his friend, it would have been a tough and impossible fight to win on his own.
"Burn you sucker and give me your life! I am so relieved this fight is ending and I can properly search all around the laboratory, of course with some more enemies to deal with first, that I can hear below but I feel confident this is almost over."
After a few weaker enemies and at long last, he had reached the room with the research papers and the mushroom samples needed. He collected what he was there for, sluggishly walked out until the potions healed him up and then left the place, ready to camp out and head to somewhere else, anywhere but there.
This was part 18 in a series accompanying Octharg The Destroyer on his journey to regain his lost power and become the destroyer he once was.
Stay tuned for part 19 and see what befalls our villain.
