In case you have not heard yet, the latest season of Fortnite just dropped. I got in this morning for a round and it went interestingly. Many locations have seen updates or other changes that might rub players wrong. Me, my favorite location has been removed so now I have to find somewhere else to land. I used to land on a hot air balloon relay station just East of Central by the desert and woods. It is no longer as interesting to land there but that is part of the fun of Fortnite – finding great landing spots.
Getting a Feel for Battle
There are new spots to land, with most of the changes seeming to have taken place in the central area of the map. I did not have time to explore much in my first match though, mainly hanging out around the landing spot I was familiar with. Even there, there are many changes. The balloon outpost has changed, the town East of that has been changed as well.
So far, the changes don’t bother me, they are evolutionary feeling. Changing up hot landing spots is a great way to force players, like me, to go outside their comfort zone.
Changes to More Than Just Locations
In my first round I picked up six eliminations and placed second. I was able to experience the rivalry system, it is like the bounty system from a chapter or two ago. Locations of each person in the rivalry are exposed, well a general area anyhow.
There are rivalry points and you pick sides before beginning play. I chose the Ice King side myself.
I do want to point out, while I have limited experience so far, there are no long range weapons I could find. This means battles are going to be up close and personal for the most part. Shot gungs and derivatives thereof are plentiful, there are rifles but no scoped options. Yet.
