Mortal Kombat Project 2026 is an interesting creation, I was not aware of it till I saw it was released. I try to follow these things through but there are so many gaming projects that I have to be selective on what I focus on. My mom would be ecstatic over this release – so many characters for Jax to rip off their arms.
Fans Continue Doing What Companies Won’t
I remember the first time I saw Mortal Kombat in arcades. I was a big fan of Street Fighter II at the time, and admittedly, my skills were honed around that Capcom classic. When I did get a chance to play Mortal Kombat or the sequel in arcades, I did about as well against the more prolific players as I do in the gameplay video embedded below.
I got my ass handed to me quickly.
The team behind Mortal Kombat Project 2026 has created an interesting mix of characters that covers A LOT of Mortal Kombat history. I am not going to try and detail every character, fans have their favorite and those that they hate, rock this as you will.
Fans, like me, like to point out companies will not do this type of thing but there is more to it than just slapping together tons of fighters. For one, people that work like to receive money for their time and investors want a return on their, well, investment.
How Mortal Kombat Project 2026 is Powered
The engine powering Mortal Kombat Project 2026 is Mugen, or M.U.G.E.N., a free to use one-on-one fighting game engine.
M.U.G.E.N. gives fans a VERY large leg up versus companies like Capcom or Warner Bros who have to create engines from scratch, modify older ones, etc. All of which cost money.
M.U.G.E.N. is free for non-commercial use, immediately cutting out companies from using it to create a fighting game (that return on investment thing rears its ugly head).
I am not bringing up the engine powering Mortal Kombat Project 2026 to spite them, just preparing anyone heading over to Chino’s YouTube channel which was where I discovered this release. In the comments, fans are touting the awesomeness as if it was built from scratch.
Here is the download link if that is all you want so you can get to enducing fatalities on your enemy.
The team behind this made a lot of work happen, I am sure. I am not discounting that.
Using M.U.G.E.N., developers use sprite rips from commercial games (few games using the engine use their own original sprites). It is easy to set up dream matches in M.U.G.E.N. such as Ryu vs Optimus Prime or Shang Tsung vs Little Red Riding Hood. All you need is the character download, a level to have them fight on, etc. All of which can be downloaded after a quick Google search.
At the end of the day, enjoy Mortal Kombat Project 2026 before a Cease and Desist hits.
