Prince of Persia is one of those titles that was huge during the 8 and 16-bit era. While it was tapering off a bit in popularity around the time of the Super Nintendo release, it was still well known. This title reached all the major platforms of the time, including the TurboGrafx-16 Super CD-ROM platform. Tengen released Prince of Persia on the Sega Genesis and that is the basis of this remaster by fans.
A classic made better
The original Prince of Persia on computers was a great title, full of amazing animation. On consoles, it is hit or miss for the most part. I believe magazines of the time give the edge to the TurboGrafx-16 Super CD-ROM version being closer to the original.
Many fans will not argue the quality of the computer version so if you want a fight, discuss the console ports.
The console ports, particularly the Sega Genesis one, were marred with various problems. This patch aims to fix those problems.
Kick the tires on this
According to the ROMHacking.net page for this hack, the game is now more accurate to the PC version. That is great news for fans. You can now block during sword fights and even perform a counterattack.
Music from the Mac version has been used in this patch as well. Music is such an important part of immersion with games. Great to see it getting respect by the modding community. Atmospheric pieces are now timed correctly as well. There is a new final battle with Jaffar, new items layout, stages are seeing a color scheme improvement. There are also new graphics for the title screen and various other screens.
This patch makes the Sega Genesis port what it should have been in the first place. Back in the day, it seemed the Sega Genesis was steadily receiving worse and worse cross platform versions of games. Great to see fans fixing this.
