Me and role-playing games (RPG) is a story that took its time in getting started. One of my earliest RPG memories was playing Alternate Reality: The Dungeon on my brothers Commodore 64 and, honestly, I was not interested in moving beyond that challenging, often hair pulling, adventure. I tried other computer RPG’s on the Nintendo Entertainment System such as the Ultima ports but those were “too different” for me. Then I tried the first NES Wizardry game and was hooked. I followed the franchise via gaming publications and remember seeing Wizardry VI show up in those pages and I was floored. Even though I didn’t have a computer, I imagined the fun of running around those dungeons and wiping out the enemy. Thanks to Remisse, English gamers can finally give Wizardry VI a run on the Sega Saturn. A unique version indeed.
Sega Saturn Got a Massive Game Pack
The title being Wizardry VI & VII Complete kind of gives away that gamers were getting two games here. While Sega, nor anyone else, took on the responsibility to port this collection back in the day, a fan is already halfway through it.
I am not aware of exactly what was unique about Wizardry VI on the Sega Saturn but those that could enjoy the Japanese version said it was worth it even if you played the PC version. Since I cannot read Japanese, I had to take their word for it.
Two Patches for One Game
Remisse has release two versions of the patch for Wizardry VI. According to Sega Saturn Shiro, one of the patches enhances the mini map and full transparency as well as brighter tiles.
The other patch mainly improves the music.
Both patches include many feature fixes and updates (apparently Data Easts’ original was buggy). Shiro goes onto state some of the restored content that is worth checking out.
Head over to SegaXtreme.net to read all the nitty gritty details and grab the patches.
