Hello Guys, this will be my entry to the Hive Gaming Community Contest - Best Video Game Memories.
Starting Up
To start it of I will be featuring a specific game called Starcraft: Broodwar, this game was one of the first PC games that I have played when I was about 8 years old back in the late 1990s.
What is StarCraft? is a real-time strategy (RTS) computer game introduced by Blizzard Entertainment in 1998. It has a space opera setting as opposed to a high fantasy setting. You could pick from 3 races which is the Terran, Protoss, and Zerg. Each race has it's pros and cons against each other, and a variety of different gameplays to play. With the balanced gameplay, depth, and intensity this game got me hooked.
We didn't have our own PC back then so we relied on Computer Shops to play the game. Computer Shops were popular back then in the Philippines. The rates back then were $1 about 20 Pesos for an hour to rent one PC. I would be saving up my allowance for school for a week which was $0.25 a day to play with my cousins on the weekends, we would rent for an hour and play LAN Games. Countless hours and fun playing this game is one of my best childhood memories.

Back to the Present
With the recent COVID-19 Pandemic forcing us to stay at home for a long time, took quite a toll on me, most of the time I was feeling down due to it. Then one day my friend suddenly sent a link it was a blizzard launcher to download StarCraft. With that all the fun memories playing the game came back. I was excited to play it again for such a long time. I didn't know that the game still exists, and can be played online with friends using Blizzards battle.net . I could say it helped me cope up with the situation and giving me something to unwind too.
We regularly play on the weekends now, and as of now we just play against AI and sometimes play against each other. We will be looking to play in ranked games in the future. I still consider myself a noob and still a lot of strategies and improvements to my game to go.
Gameplay and Strategies
From the 3 races my favorite is Terran, as of now there are 3 types of strategies I use, depending on the situation:
For Defence and Attack Strong vs Air and Ground - I go with a Goliath and Siege Tank Build
For Mobility and Attack - I go with Battle Cruisers and
For Stealth - I go with Ghosts and Nuke Drops which decimate opponent's bases.
Recently I was watching pro matches in youtube with pros like Flash, Bisu, and Jaedong. My strategies at the moment won't cut it. They also have a insanely high APM(Actions Per Minute) which range to 300+. I could barely reach a 100, it is really great that to watch pro matches as you will learn a lot from them.
Adapting to the Future
Recently StarCraft released a remastered version which greatly improved the graphics of the game to HD, it looks beautiful. I will be looking to purchase it in the near future. Here are some screenshots:
