Hey gamers, how are you all doing? I hope you're doing great! I'm still playing Predecessor and trying out different characters, and this week Terra is on rotation—a character for duo lane and jungle who's really powerful and happens to be one of the most expensive ones in the game. So I've been testing her out and playing with her, and let me tell you, it's been quite an experience.
For those who don't know much about Predecessor, it's a third-person MOBA that was inspired by Epic Games' Paragon, which unfortunately shut down back in 2018. The folks at Omeda Studios took it upon themselves to create a spiritual successor, and honestly, they've done a fantastic job. The game has been in early access since late 2022 and recently launched its open beta on consoles too. It's completely free to play, which is awesome.
My Experience with Terra
Terra of Ironvale is a character with a hell of a backstory. She comes from Velrune, a world where technology and magic meet in a medieval fantasy setting. Her family used to run famous forges that crafted the realm's finest armor, but after her father was betrayed and killed with a sword of his own making, everything went to hell. Now she's out for revenge with her father's battle-axe and the heaviest plate armor she could forge.
But enough about the lore—let's talk gameplay. Terra is an absolute beast on the battlefield, literally. She's a tank character who wields this massive ancestral axe that makes you feel like you're swinging a building at enemies. The first thing you notice when playing her is how incredibly durable she is. She's built to rush into the middle of team fights and cause absolute chaos while your team follows up.
What makes Terra really interesting is her passive ability called Hersir. Every time you hit enemies with basic attacks or abilities, you build stacks up to a maximum of five. Once you hit max stacks, your axe starts glowing with this radiant light, and your next ability gets empowered with extra effects. It's like having a second ultimate ready to go whenever you want. The cool part is that when you return to base, you automatically get max stacks, so you can always leave the fountain ready to wreck some faces.
Her primary ability, Ruthless Assault, is where things get brutal. Terra swings her axe around hitting everyone nearby twice, and each hit does solid physical damage. But when it's empowered? She strikes a devastating third time dealing true damage. True damage, gamers! That means it ignores all armor and resistances. I've deleted so many squishy carries with this combo it's not even funny anymore.
Playing Support in Different Lanes
Now, I've been experimenting with Terra in duo lane as a support, and it's been pretty interesting. Normally you'd think of support characters as healers or buffers, but Terra is more of an aggressive support. She's the kind of support that says "the best defense is obliterating the other team before they can hurt my carry."
In duo lane, Terra excels at zoning out enemies and controlling space. Her Highland Hurl ability is perfect for this—she throws a spectral axe that slows enemies it hits. When empowered, it roots them instead for a full second. This is absolutely clutch for setting up kills with your carry. I can't tell you how many times I've rooted an enemy ADC and watched my teammate just unload on them while they couldn't move.
The key to playing Terra in duo lane is being aggressive but smart. You want to use your Wild Rush ability to engage—she channels up and then dashes forward, knocking back any enemies in her path. When empowered, this also gives you a shield, which is perfect for diving under tower or starting team fights. But you can't just rush in blindly. You need to communicate with your carry and make sure they're ready to follow up, otherwise you'll just get focused down and die alone.
I've found that Terra works best with carries who can follow up quickly on her engage. Characters with burst damage or good sustained DPS can really capitalize on the chaos Terra creates. When you rush in, root someone with an empowered Highland Hurl, and start spinning your axe with Ruthless Assault, it creates so much pressure that enemies have to either run or fight, and most of the time they're not ready for either option.
Playing Jungle with Terra
Taking Terra into the jungle has been even more fun, honestly. She clears camps reasonably fast once you get a couple of items, and her ganks are absolutely devastating. The thing about Terra in the jungle is that she has everything you want in a ganker: gap closers, crowd control, and massive damage.
Starting out in the jungle, you want to focus on clearing your camps efficiently. Terra's Ruthless Assault hits multiple targets, so you can damage the whole camp at once. Make sure you're building up your Hersir stacks on the camps so you're ready when you go for a gank. I usually try to have max stacks before I even show up in lane.
For ganking, the strategy is pretty straightforward but effective. You want to come from an angle where you can cut off the enemy's escape route. Use Highland Hurl to slow them down from range, then if they start running, that's when you charge in with Wild Rush. If you have empowered abilities ready, the combo is insane: empowered Highland Hurl roots them, Wild Rush knocks them up and gives you a shield, then you just go to town with Ruthless Assault.
The beautiful thing about Terra in the jungle is her ultimate ability, Unstoppable Force. This is probably one of the best tank ultimates in the game. It cleanses all debuffs, gives you maximum Hersir stacks instantly, grants you bonus armor, and makes you completely immune to crowd control for 6 to 10 seconds depending on the level. This means when you dive into a team fight, they literally cannot stop you. Stuns? Nope. Roots? Nope. Slows? Absolutely not. You become this unstoppable freight train of destruction.
I've had so many moments where the enemy team tries to peel me off their carry, throwing everything they have at me, and I just pop my ultimate and keep swinging. It's incredibly satisfying. The immunity to crowd control also means you can save it as a counter to big ultimates. If you see a Gideon channeling his Black Hole or some other massive CC ability, you can just activate Unstoppable Force and laugh as their ultimate does absolutely nothing to you.
The Best Items to Buy
Now let's talk builds, because items are absolutely crucial for Terra. The most popular build focuses on health and physical power, and there's a good reason for that. Terra scales really well with both stats, and health items also make you tankier, which is exactly what you want as a frontline character.
One of the core items I've been building is Bonesaw. This item is absolutely nuts on Terra because it gives you bonus damage based on your maximum health. Since Terra naturally builds a lot of HP items, Bonesaw turns all that tankiness into additional damage. I've gotten to the point where I'm sitting at over 5,000 health and still hitting like a truck. It's the best of both worlds.
For defense, you want items that give you health along with resistances. Stonewall is a solid pick that gives you health and damage mitigation, which pairs perfectly with the Bonesaw strategy. If you're facing a lot of magic damage, Crystalline Cuirass is your friend—it gives magical armor and health, keeping you alive against those burst mages who think they can delete you.
Frostguard is another great defensive option, especially against auto-attack heavy teams. It gives you health and the ability to slow enemies who attack you, which makes it even harder for carries to kite away from you. And if you really need to shut down physical damage dealers, Citadel is a fantastic choice that also boosts your own damage output.
For offensive items beyond Bonesaw, I like picking up Basilisk. It shreds armor with each hit, making your entire team's physical damage more effective. Sky Splitter is also solid for the ability haste and damage, but I prefer items that give health to maximize that Bonesaw passive.
The build usually looks something like: Bonesaw as your main damage item, then 2-3 defensive items depending on what you're facing, and maybe one more offensive item if you're really ahead. The key is balancing damage with survivability. You want to be threatening enough that enemies have to focus you, but tanky enough that it takes forever to kill you.
One item that deserves special mention is the Ability Haste items. Terra really benefits from being able to use her abilities more frequently. The faster you can stack up Hersir and throw out empowered abilities, the more impact you have in fights. Items that give ability haste along with health are perfect for her.
I'll Keep Testing More Characters
So far, Terra has been an absolute blast to play. She's got this perfect balance of being incredibly tanky while still dealing serious damage. Whether I'm playing her in duo lane as an aggressive support or taking her into the jungle for some devastating ganks, she always feels impactful.
The learning curve isn't too steep either. The basic combo is pretty straightforward: build Hersir stacks, empower an ability, engage with Wild Rush, root with Highland Hurl, and finish with Ruthless Assault. But there's still room for skill expression in terms of when to engage, which abilities to empower, and how to position in team fights.
One thing I will say is that Terra can feel a bit overwhelming at first if you're not used to managing the Hersir stacks. You need to keep track of how many stacks you have and decide which ability you want to empower. Do you need the root from Highland Hurl to lock someone down? Or do you need the shield from Wild Rush to survive the engage? Or maybe you just want that third strike of true damage from Ruthless Assault to finish someone off. These decisions matter and can be the difference between a successful fight and feeding the enemy team.
The other challenge is knowing when to use your ultimate. Unstoppable Force is powerful, but it doesn't make you invincible—you can still take damage. You need to use it at the right moment to either initiate a fight, counter enemy crowd control, or escape when things go south. I've wasted plenty of ultimates by popping it too early or too late, but that's part of the learning process.
I'm definitely going to keep playing Terra and refining my builds and strategies. But I also want to try out more characters on rotation. Predecessor has such a diverse roster, and each character brings something unique to the table. Next week there will be different characters available, and I'm excited to see who's coming up.
If you've played Terra or are thinking about trying her out, let me know what you think! Do you prefer her in the jungle or duo lane? What's your favorite item build? And if there are other characters you think I should try, drop a comment and let me know.
For now, I'll keep grinding, testing different builds, and learning the ins and outs of this awesome game. Predecessor has really captured that Paragon magic while adding its own improvements and refinements. If you haven't tried it yet and you're a fan of MOBAs, I highly recommend giving it a shot. It's free to play, the community is growing, and Omeda Studios keeps adding new content regularly.
So hey, gamers, that's my experience with Terra so far! I hope this post helps if you're thinking about picking her up. See you in the next post where I'll be exploring more characters and sharing more adventures in Predecessor!
