Hello gamers! How are you doing? I hope you're doing great! Well, I'm still playing Predecessor a lot, and wow, this MOBA really has me hooked. It's been an incredible journey exploring different heroes and strategies, and in my progress through the game, I've acquired a new character called RENNA - a witch. This time it's a pure ranged character for Carry, Mid lane, or Off Carry, quite powerful and with a really good combination of abilities that makes her extremely fun to play.
Renna has quite an interesting backstory that makes her stand out from other heroes. Like her sister Yurei, she was raised in the training grounds of the Koru Shinzo, ancient warriors dedicated to defending Sylmara against demonic threats. But unlike Yurei, Renna was rejected by the spirits, her tutors, and even her own sister. Living in her sister's shadow and being despised as a child by those who should have nurtured her, Renna decided to seek another path to power. She made a pact with Akeron, the Demon King of Ashkarath, gaining access to powerful Riftmagic. Now she stands against her once-beloved sister as the Demon King's right hand. Pretty dark stuff, right? But that's what makes her so badass.
RENNA for Carry in Dual Lane
When playing Renna as a Carry in the dual lane, she becomes a true force of destruction. Her passive ability, Echoes of the Damned, is what makes her so unique and dangerous. Basically, entities that die near Renna have a 50% chance of leaving behind their Essence that she can consume by moving nearby. Heroes ALWAYS leave behind Essence, which is huge. This Essence directly enhances Renna's abilities, making her stronger throughout the match. It's like she's constantly powering up just by being in the action. Plus, she can hover by jumping while mid-air, which gives her some nice mobility options for dodging skill shots or repositioning in fights.
Her kit is perfect for the Carry role because she scales incredibly well with the Essence mechanic. The more fights you're in, the more kills and assists you get, the stronger she becomes. Her Soulfire ability unleashes 3 piercing waves of energy that each deal magical damage, and here's the kicker - for every 50 Essence she consumes, she fires 1 additional wave. So late game, when you've been farming Essence all match, you're firing like 5 or 6 waves instead of just 3. It's brutal.
Her Mortal Coil is another incredible ability for the Carry position. She launches a Soul Orb that pulls in enemies and deals damage over time. But the best part? Renna heals for a percentage of the damage she deals to targets affected by the orb. And if enemy Heroes or Minions take damage from Soul Orb while below 8% Max Health (plus 1% per 30 Essence), they are EXECUTED. Yeah, you read that right - executed. No escape, no last-second saves. Dead. This makes her absolutely terrifying in team fights because not only is she dealing tons of damage, she's also healing herself and executing low-health enemies.
Dominating the Mid Lane with RENNA
Now, when you take Renna to the Mid lane, that's where things get really interesting. Mid lane is all about controlling the map, roaming for ganks, and winning those crucial team fights in the middle of the match. Renna excels at all of this. Her Stupor ability is perfect for mid lane engagements. She leaps upwards and floats in the air as she prepares to launch a ball of demonic energy. When she releases it, the ball explodes on contact dealing magical damage and mesmerizing enemies hit. Mesmerize is basically a stun, so you're locking down your opponent while your team follows up.
The Essence scaling on Stupor is insane too. It deals an additional 1% of the target's current health as magical damage for every 20 Essence consumed. So against tanky enemies or high-health targets, you're doing percentage-based damage on top of your base damage. This makes her effective against literally any team composition. Squishy carries? Burst them down. Tanks? Percentage health damage cuts through them.
Her ultimate, Abyssal Rift, is what really defines her mid lane dominance. Renna channels briefly before teleporting to her targeted location and summoning an infernal singularity above herself for 5 seconds.
This singularity unleashes projectiles at all nearby enemy units every 0.5 seconds. It's constant, unavoidable damage in a zone. Perfect for controlling objectives like buffs or contesting areas during team fights. And guess what? With Essence, the effect duration extends by 0.5 seconds for every 50 Essence consumed. So late game, that 5-second zone becomes like an 8 or 9-second death zone. Absolutely brutal for pushing enemies off objectives or securing kills in tight spaces.
RENNA is a Medium Difficulty Hero
The developers classify Renna as a medium difficulty hero, and honestly, I think that's pretty accurate. She's not the hardest hero to pick up - her abilities are straightforward enough that you can understand what they do after a couple matches. But mastering her? That's a different story. The key to playing Renna well is all about Essence management and positioning.
You need to be constantly aware of how much Essence you have because it directly affects your damage output and utility. Do you use your abilities now, or do you wait to collect more Essence for the enhanced versions? That decision-making is what separates good Renna players from great ones. Plus, since she's a ranged mage with no real escape besides her Stupor leap (which is also your main damage/CC tool), positioning is absolutely critical. Get caught out of position and you're dead. But play smart, keep your distance, and you're an unkillable damage-dealing machine.
Another thing that takes practice is her hover mechanic. Being able to jump and then hover mid-air might seem like just a mobility thing, but it's actually super useful for dodging skill shots, adjusting your position in fights, or just baiting out enemy abilities. I've won several duels just by hovering at the right moment to dodge a crucial stun or damage ability. It's one of those small mechanics that makes a huge difference once you get comfortable with it.
Getting Used to Her Playstyle
Like any hero in Predecessor, there's a learning curve with Renna. The first few matches I played with her, I struggled a bit because I wasn't used to the Essence mechanic. I'd waste my abilities early without enough Essence stacked up, or I'd die trying to collect Essence from kills and walk right into the enemy team. But once you start understanding the rhythm of her gameplay, everything clicks.
Some tricks I've picked up: Always try to last-hit heroes with your basic attacks or abilities when you can, because remember - heroes ALWAYS drop Essence, not just 50% chance like minions and monsters. So getting those kills and assists is crucial for scaling. Also, use your Mortal Coil aggressively in lane. The healing you get from it makes trading incredibly favorable, and the execute threshold means you can secure kills that other mages might miss.
Positioning with Abyssal Rift is key too. Don't just drop it on yourself in the middle of a fight unless you're trying to zone enemies away. Sometimes the best use is to teleport to a side angle and force enemies to either walk through your death zone or reposition, giving your team the advantage. It's all about controlling space and making the enemy uncomfortable.
So well, gamers, thanks to everyone for reading. I think Renna is definitely worth it. She brings something unique to Predecessor with her Essence mechanic and her aggressive, high-damage playstyle. She's not the easiest hero to master, but she's incredibly rewarding once you get the hang of her. You just have to get used to playing her and pick up the tricks - knowing when to collect Essence, when to engage, how to position in fights, and maximizing that execute damage on Mortal Coil.
Whether you're playing her as a Carry in the dual lane or dominating Mid, Renna offers versatility and power. She's perfect for players who like to scale into the late game and become an unstoppable force. If you haven't tried her yet and you enjoy playing mages or ranged damage dealers, definitely give Renna a shot. You won't regret it. The learning curve is real, but once you master her, you'll be executing enemies left and right and carrying your team to victory. See you in the next post, gamers! Keep grinding and keep collecting that Essence!
