Hey gamers! I hope you're all doing great! So, as I mentioned in my last post, we finally made it to the forest, and this time we're diving deep into it. The Southern Forest was a location that appeared blocked from The Prisoner's Gate, and it wasn't until we defeated Merveil the Siren that we could finally access it. Now that we're here, things are about to get interesting, and trust me, this forest has a lot to offer.
Venturing Into the Southern Forest
So once inside the Southern Forest, our mission is crystal clear: find the new camp. This is the Forest Camp, which establishes a completely new starting point for practically everything—new vendors, new quests, and much more. Our mission will be to traverse the forest to find it, and let me tell you, the journey there isn't going to be a walk in the park.
I'm currently at level 19, and all the monsters here are around level 13. I've had a pretty solid evolution in my skills and choice of equipment and gems, which puts me at a good level of resistance and strength to fight these monsters. The power creep in Path of Exile is real, and you can definitely feel the difference when you've invested time in building your character properly. As we advance through the forest, we discover all the new enemies that appear in this zone. The creatures here are quite diverse, ranging from wild beasts to corrupted forest dwellers that have been twisted by the dark forces plaguing Wraeclast.
The Southern Forest is actually a relatively small map; it's not as massive compared to The Prisoner's Gate, for example. It's very similar in size to the Coast of Lioneye where Act 1 begins. This makes it somewhat easier to navigate, but don't let the size fool you—the density of enemies and the challenges they present are nothing to scoff at. The map design is pretty straightforward, with winding paths through dense foliage and occasional clearings where you'll encounter larger groups of monsters.
As I progress through the area, I eventually come across the entrance to what I'm looking for, but since this is a small map, I've decided to explore every corner of it to eliminate all the monsters I can find. This way, I try to collect as much experience as possible while exploring the world. Experience grinding in Path of Exile is essential, especially when you're preparing for the tougher challenges ahead. Every monster killed, every rare enemy defeated, adds up to your overall power level and helps you unlock more passive skills from that massive skill tree.
The combat encounters in the Southern Forest are pretty engaging. The monsters here have different attack patterns compared to what we faced in Act 1. Some enemies shoot projectiles, others rush at you with melee attacks, and there are even some that can apply debuffs like poison or bleeding. This forces you to stay mobile and pay attention to your positioning. I've found that kiting enemies and using area-of-effect abilities works particularly well in this zone, especially when you're surrounded by multiple mobs.
One thing I really appreciate about Path of Exile is how the game constantly introduces new enemy types as you progress. It keeps the gameplay fresh and forces you to adapt your strategy. In the Southern Forest, you'll encounter creatures like Rhoas—these aggressive bird-like monsters that charge at you with incredible speed. There are also various types of undead and corrupted wildlife that have been affected by the malevolent forces in Wraeclast. Each enemy type requires a slightly different approach, and learning their patterns is key to surviving efficiently.
Reaching the Forest Camp and New Opportunities
After I finished killing all the monsters I encountered, I decided to head back to the other end where I found the entrance I had discovered earlier. This single entrance is the gateway to the Forest Camp, the safe haven we've been searching for. The anticipation of finally reaching a new hub area is always exciting in Path of Exile because it means new opportunities, new merchants with better gear, and of course, new storylines to uncover.
So finally, I arrived at the Forest Camp where I found a whole new group of people and NPCs. I haven't talked to any of them yet because I want to wait until I play again tomorrow so I can record and share it with you guys. I think it's important to experience these story moments with proper documentation, especially since the narrative in Path of Exile can be quite intricate and rewarding when you pay attention to it. However, upon arriving, I immediately noticed 4 quest markers waiting to talk to us, and that's how we'll learn about the story of this second act.
The Forest Camp itself is beautifully designed, with makeshift tents, campfires, and various NPCs going about their business. It has that authentic survivor settlement feel to it—people making do with what they have in this harsh, unforgiving world. The atmosphere is quite different from the muddy, desperate vibe of Lioneye's Watch in Act 1. Here, there's a sense of being slightly more established, though still very much on the edge of survival.
Another element that has been gradually evolving as I've been accumulating Grove Blood is the Grove Tree. I've been able to increase its abilities and benefits for the production of grafts and gifts, so little by little I'll be able to obtain better and better items. I'll try to take advantage of this as much as I can. I'm not sure how long it will be available, but while it is, I'll try to extract as much benefit from the tree as possible. These seasonal mechanics in Path of Exile always add an extra layer of depth to the gameplay, and they often provide unique rewards that can significantly boost your character's power.
For those who might not be familiar with Path of Exile's endgame and progression systems, the game constantly introduces temporary leagues with unique mechanics. These mechanics often revolve around special encounters, crafting systems, or in this case, the Grove Tree system that provides additional loot and character enhancements. Making the most of these seasonal features is crucial because they typically offer some of the best rewards in the game, and once the league ends, these mechanics might not be available again—or they might be integrated into the core game in a modified form.
Building Power and Looking Ahead to Act 2
I've also been paying close attention to my gear upgrades. At this stage of the game, finding rare items with the right stat combinations becomes increasingly important. I've been carefully evaluating each piece of equipment that drops, looking for improvements in life, resistances, and damage output. The beauty of Path of Exile's itemization system is its incredible depth—even seemingly minor upgrades can make a noticeable difference in your character's performance.
My current build is shaping up nicely, and I'm starting to see the synergies between my chosen skills and passive tree allocations come together. This is one of the aspects of Path of Exile that I absolutely love—the feeling of your character becoming more powerful and refined as you make deliberate choices about your build. Every level up, every new piece of gear, every gem level gain contributes to this sense of progression.
Looking ahead, I know that Act 2 is going to present even greater challenges. The difficulty spike from Act 1 to Act 2 is noticeable, and I'll need to make sure my character is properly prepared. This means not just focusing on damage output, but also ensuring I have adequate defensive layers. Resistances are particularly important in Path of Exile—being capped on elemental resistances can mean the difference between breezing through encounters and getting one-shot by elemental damage.
I'm also excited to see what the quest lines in the Forest Camp will involve. Path of Exile's storyline, while sometimes easy to overlook when you're focused on the mechanical aspects of the game, is actually quite compelling. The dark, gritty world of Wraeclast is filled with interesting characters, tragic stories, and morally ambiguous situations that make the journey feel meaningful beyond just the hunt for loot and experience.
So that's it, gamers! It's been, as always, a pleasure to share my adventure with you. We'll continue tomorrow with a new post where I'll dive into those quest conversations and see what challenges await us in Act 2. The journey through Wraeclast continues, and I can't wait to see what horrors and treasures the game has in store for us next. Until then, keep grinding, keep exploring, and most importantly, keep enjoying the incredible depth that Path of Exile offers. See you in the next post!
