I first started playing Monkey Island, half a life time ago. Or perhaps even earlier... I am talking about the late 90s, early 00s. I was born in 1981.
While writing this post, I am downloading Monkey Island 3, aka The Curse of Monkey Island with my ultra-slow countryside Internet connection - pretty fitting, if you ask me. Good ol' ( slow ) times,
when people still had patience and focus
After not having had a decent laptop for quite some time, I recently inherited/ took over my dad's machine and, soon afterward, realized that I used to actually play games, via Steam.
So, after reinstalling steam and resetting my password, I discovered that I have quite a lot of games installed - including some made by my younger brother ( how many people can say this ). But, tonight, I felt like treating myself and playing something new(ish).
It was then, that I was reminded of the New Monkey Island game and thus I eventually ended up buying a 25 year old game, haha!
In all honesty, I'm not even sure if I've played this game but I probably have. I have vague memories of playing the early 90s, 2D Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2, for a bit, and I have clear memories of spending many a day playing the 3D animated Part 4: Escape to Monkey Island.
It's likely that I also played part 3, somewhere inbetween :<)
I am pretty sure that my memory will be refreshed, once I start playing this soon to be installed gem and I am already looking forward to a serious dose of nostalgia.
It's intriguing that, while most things have become way more expensive, some things have actually become cheaper. This game only cost me about 5 Euros/ or 5 USD, while I remember spending loads of savings and or pocket money on games, back in the days ( 1990s ). It's also amazing that they can now be acquired in a couple of clicks.
No matter how much I enjoyed browsing through the gaming section in a toyshop ( back in the days when I still enjoyed shopping ), this was almost as fun as browsing through VHS tapes or DVDs in a video rental store, I am kind of glad that I can now buy a game, without having to leave the house.
Also, gaming stores are non-existant where I live, in the Portugese countryside.
Right now, I'm heating up some water for a nice cup of tea. I just grabbed some chocolate. Meanwhile, my wood burner is glowing nicely and warming my back.
I just checked in on Steam and the game has finally been downloaded. My hands are itching to start playing, so I am going to cut it short here.
Enough monkeying around.
It's about time to start a new adventure...
Have you played Monkey Island yourself? What about the latest M.I. game? If you played that one, I'm curious how you liked it? I'm looking forward to your story in the comments section.
