...I would say that this would be true for any open world game as well because it doesn't make any sense that you would be continually, and quite easily, captured - only to be released or easily escape over and over again.
This is the first Far Cry game that I have played with any level of dedication and for the most part I really like it. I dig the idea behind a religious cult that brainwashes the population of an area and as the methods of them being capable of doing this are revealed further, it becomes more and more interesting about their tactics. The brutality of the otherwise seemingly somewhat friendly leaders of this cult that are revealed over time are really well thought out and the actors that they hired to do the voiceovers are absolutely perfect for their roles.
I enjoy how you can go just about anywhere you want right from the start, even at your own detriment also. Other than the crazy difficult spike that happens at the first "boss fight" I have been pleased with everything and only encountered a really bad bug where I got stuck in the ground one time. That was until I played for many hours in a row yesterday and got really fed up with a part of the game that you cannot avoid.
This isn't the first time this has happened to me. It happens relatively early on in the game as you start to accomplish objectives and free prisoners. But yesterday I played for an inordinate amount of hours in a row and during that time I got an indicator on the screen that I am being hunted on 3 separate occasions. You are given some sort of radio indication that the cult is sending some elite soldiers to get cha, and I've gotten to the point now where I don't even resist because it if futile. No matter what you do, you WILL be captured. It's built into the game that there is no way to avoid it.
When you are inevitably captured, you go to a rather long cutscene and thus far they have been pretty good. It's not a problem of the capture video sequences not being "good," the problem is that you might have been in the middle of something like working your way down a coast looking for something and just stopped to free a prisoner and this pushed you over the "hunted edge." Then you have no choice but to be captured, go through a speech by one of the leaders and then you find yourself on your own in some sort of keep, castle, or dungeon that you have to fight your way out of solo.
I mentioned before that a big part of this game is your companions helping you out along the way and once they get taken away from you a big part of your offense it taken away from you. I'm not saying that fighting on your own is too hard, it's actually quite easy in this game. The thing that I don't like is the fact that you have no say in this happening or not.
Another thing that kind of irks me about this entire process is that the idea is that you escape of course because the game would be over otherwise. It makes zero sense that this group, who is clearly trying to kill you because they do attempt to do that on sight any other time they encounter you, always leave you in a rather easily escapable situation rather than just putting a bullet in your brain right then and there when they have you strapped down to a chair. I'm very hopeful that some sort of master plan as to why they would release you over and over again is revealed later on in the game because if it isn't, than all of this makes no sense at all.
I understand that they were trying to be innovative as far as advancing the story is concerned and rather than showing cutscenes of this happening to someone else wouldn't be as effective. This doesn't mean that I have to like it though. Now when I end up getting marked I don't even move or try to get away because even if you do manage to see the people that are hunting you, and even if you kill a bunch of them, they come in endless waves and will eventually get you. I've been mystery sniped by one of them while driving a car at full speed with no enemies in sight on the road. It is inevitable.
I just don't like it. I suppose it is a minor thing to complain about seeing as how almost everything else about this game is so fantastic.
