Necromunda: Hired Gun is a new first person shooter set in the Warhammer 40k universe. The first screenshots are impressive and the release, set for 1st June, is not far away.
Warhammer 40k meets RPG
Necromunda: Hired Gun plays on the eponymous world Necromunda.
Their underworld is ruled by gangs and organized crime. You will take on the role of a bounty hunter to hunt down notorious gangsters and grotesque mutants ... sounds promising, doesn't it?
The game describes itself as
a fast-paced and brutal indie first-person shooter set in the darkest areas of Warhammer 40.000s most infamous Hive City
The Necromunda setting is a mix of end times, sci-fi and cyberpunk - Fans of the Warhammer setting are probably familiar with it.
cute doggo
Although it is supposed to be a pure single-player game, you are still not traveling alone: You will be accompanied by a mastiff - a four-legged, dog-like creature that has been reinforced with cyber implants and can track down and even kill enemies for you.
Your hero can also benefit from numerous cyber upgrades, which can be unlocked and upgraded after successful bounty hunts. With the right upgrade, you can run along walls or use a grappling hook to move through the huge underground world.
The developers describe their game as follows:
Navigate an ocean of crime and corruption to balance the bloody ecosystem of Necromunda as a merciless hired gun. The money’s good, the dog’s loyal, and the gun’s reliable – but can you survive the hunt? Necromunda: Hired Gun is an indie fast-paced, violent, and thrilling FPS set in the darkest reaches of Warhammer 40,000’s most infamous hive city.
For the right price, eliminate the most notorious gangers and mutants. Your armory is a sprawling arsenal. Your body is enhanced with a dozen customizable augments to run on walls and leap over chasms. Your cyber-mastiff will sniff out and kill enemies for you, while your grappling hook allows quick, agile traversal of the massive environments.
- An indie fast-paced FPS in the Warhammer 40,000 universe
- Upgrade and fight alongside your loyal cyber-mastiff
- Endless weapon and augment customisation
- Upgrade, advance, and level up as you collect bounties
The screenshots show that there will also be some wacky weapons in Necromunda. One picture, for example, shows that rats that have been charged with explosives can be used as live hand grenades - a specialty of House Cawdor, one of the six factions of Necromun
Behind The Scenes
Necromunda is originally a tabletop spin-off from Warhammer 40.000 and takes place in the eponymous industrial planet. War, pollution and the extraction of natural resources have made it a dystopian wasteland and is dominated by gigantic megacities.
Within these so-called hive cities, various clans and houses fight for supremacy between power stations and industrial plants, while the wasteland outside is ruled by bandits and mutants. In September 2020, Necromunda: Underhive Wars, a PC game in the Necromunda setting, was released.
