Hive Gaming Community - Best Video Game Memories - My First Computer
Hello friends,
First of all, I'm 38 and you know that no matter how old we men are, playing games is a passion for us. Currently I say that as the owner of a PS4: D Meanwhile, I live in Turkey. I mentioned this because some things may come as surprising to you while I am describing my memory. For example, he was not available most of the natural gas system to warm the house at the time and often had stoves in homes in Turkey. For this reason, only one room of the house could be heated. Heating the water and taking a shower was a very laborious task ... Think about it now.
A dark winter day in 1997...
It was the first time we had a computer. My father hardly bought this computer for me and my brother. Although the reason for purchasing was to follow up the accounting works in our workplace and the goods entering our warehouse, but there was a situation that nobody knew how to use these programs. Worse still, the computer had Windows 3.1 installed at that time and we didn't even know how to use it. I learned to tamper with my first computer. I was introduced to video games at that time. Actually, I met the 4 games that impressed me the most, thanks to that computer.
Anyway, my computer has a pentium 75 processor and it was a very high-end machine for that period. Back then, everyone had computers with a lower processor, called 386-486. We have kept the processor strong so that we can use it for many years. Of course, we bought the computer without a CD reader so that the price was not too high. :)
It was one of the big mistakes made. Since there was no CD reader, we had to use what we called a floppy disk, which I did not know until that day, to install something on the computer. As a matter of fact, after trying to install Doom 2 4 times with 15 floppy disks, I fully understood the seriousness of this job. The CD reader was a highly necessary tool for the computer. Of course, this is another story...
Hey, don't be in a hurry, please continue reading ... I'll talk about the games as well, and actually I have a request from you at the end of my article ... I will describe a game I played when I was a little boy but I don't even know the name and maybe learn its name if anyone knows ... If you look, that's the only reason I wrote this article. I need to find that game. Because for that game I would sit for hours in a room like this in the middle of winter. :) What a childhood...We used to play with my brothers in turn.
Yes what was I saying? Yes what was I saying? Our computer consisted of 2 huge parts. The first part is the screen, and the other is the case with the heart and brain of our computer ... Of course, we also had keyboard and mouse.
We haven't played for a long time. More precisely, we did not play any other games, except for a few games that were pre-installed on the computer. Yes, I know it's funny, but imagine that you have never used a gaming computer and played games like this, you know what I mean. You felt like there was a huge planet in front of you waiting to be discovered...
So, which were the ones that impressed me from these ready-made games?
1- Volfied : We used to play this game as a family… I used to play it during the day and my parents would play it at night. For some reason my brother couldn't manage to play this game. : D It was one of the magic tricks for me. The master of this game at home was my mother. She finished the game many times. By the way, for those who are curious about the gameplay of the game, I am adding a video I found from youtube down here. I guess those who click on the title can play this game over the internet.
2- Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 : I will not make sentences just like "I know that we are fighting with my brother for this game". Because the game split the screen in two and allowed two people to play on the same keyboard. We had a lot of races with my brother, father and mother. :) By the way, this game was my brother's favorite game. I loved it too, especially playing with the rainy weather effects. By the way, I left the gameplay video of the game underneath. Maybe those who wonder can watch from there.
3- Arkanoid : Again, it is a game taht we play as a family and also my father's favorite game. It is a very nice game that can be played even to find out what features the falling capsules give in the game... Frankly, I was playing this game fondly, but, I don't know, I played the Volfied game more.
Well, what I've told you so far are games that we enjoy playing on the computer. Now I realized that I had to tell you some things to better understand those days. For example, the most important thing in those years there was not much internet in Turkey. There wasn't even any. Personal computer, private internet for homes, I don't think it's even in government offices. Even the use of mobile phones was not much. For example, my father had a huge Ericsson Telephone. For example, I haven't heard this phone ring once...We managed these games for almost 3 months, but now we started to get bored of course...I said to myself "Let me ask, let me search and find other games." As a result of long researches, I learned from a computer developer that I can load and play games on discs. However, we were young at that time and we didn't have a penny. A floppy disk is 3000 TL, the games I want are at least 9-10 floppy disks and the bad part is that there is no guarantee that it will work. And the even more funny part is that I don't even know what DOs commands to use how to do it, even if the floppy disks are fine. Here everything is for the sake of the game... :) Now it's time to talk about the games that I spent a lot of money, installed on the computer, played and liked :
1- Heretic : Heretic, which made me love fps games, more precisely the first fps game I played. It literally means something like an atheist. It is even possible to see a lot of things that go beyond logic in the game. Witches, spells, dead creatures, devils etc... I had a hard time when I first played it. Nobody from my family liked the game anyway... After I realized this game, I started to play Skyrim directly:P Anyway... Aside from a joke, the parallel flow of my past game taste with my current game pleasure makes me very happy...I'm dropping a gameplay video down again.
2-Doom :
I have not been reprimanded by my father because of this game. Because when I installed this game, the computer was at our workplace and my father was very angry at our play with the computer. We were both disrupting things and causing some products to be stolen. Since we were sitting inside, people passing the products exhibited outside could easily steal them. Anyway, I played the Heretic game for a long time and after learning the content of this game it started to not be enough for me .... As a result of a little research, I installed the Doom game on my computer with 5-6 diskettes - maybe I don't remember more - and it is a better game for me. I understood that it was. It was a game a few clicks ahead of the heretic in terms of both visual and subject matter. By the way, it was also fun to find the hidden places in the game. Of course I also learned to do a lot of keyboard tricks. With God mode, I have been moving on the map that I have never known, seeing what is happening and then playing in normal mode a lot. :) I also made a small confession so...
3-Mortal Kombat II : There is a funny story about this game being installed on the computer. My brother and cousin were kids at that time, and as you know, we know no limits in mischief. It happens when we fight each other. One day, while we are fighting, my father sees us. It doesn't tell us anything. He called us over two days later. We went all together ... My father said, look, I had the fighting game installed for you. That day I met Mortal Kombat 2. The best part of this game is that we could fight two people on the keyboard. It was really good. Apart from that, we could do the movements of almost all the fighters. But unfortunately we couldn't fatalize. I was always fighting with him as luckily I managed to find the fatality move of the character Johnny Cage. :)
friends, these are the best games of my childhood and I love to play the most, but there is one among them and unfortunately I cannot remember its name. Because we never looked at his name. I can only say this. It was a game played in the Atari2600 or cbs colecovision case. We control something like an airplane in the game. It's a progressive game. This plane-like thing looks like an X and it seems to jump forward. There are lots of flying objects and we shoot them. In the meantime, we try not to hit the objects we encounter. I'll leave you a simple drawing of it here below. And I think we will find this game...I know it was a bad drawing but that's all I can remember...
Take care yourself and have a nice weekend everyone...!
Writing you can see in this article is belongs to me.
