The game that laid the foundations that were later polished and perfected to bring us two great and far superior titles and give birth to a trilogy that is well worth paying attention to.
El juego que sentó las bases que luego fueron pulidas y perfeccionadas para traernos dos grandiosos y muy superiores titulos y asi mismo dar luz a una trilogia que vale mucho la pena prestarle atención.
Today we have all seen, read or heard the name of the anime/manga Dragon Ball. Brought to the world by the mangaka (Japanese comic author) Akira Toriyama, its creation has influenced hundreds of mangaka who grew up watching this great series. It has been marketed worldwide with action figures, movies and video games. Of the latter mentioned, Dragon Ball Z has appeared in countless titles, generally fighting games, although it has also been presented in genres such as RPG. This time I will talk about the first game of the trilogy; Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku.
Hoy en dia todos hemos visto, leido o escuchado el nombre del anime/manga Dragon Ball. Traido al mundo por el mangaka (Autor de comics japonese) Akira Toriyama, su creación a influenciado a cientos de mangakas que crecieron viendo esta gran serie. Se ha comercializado mundialmente con figuras de acción, peliculas y videojuegos. De esto ultimo mencionado, Dragon Ball Z ha aparecido en infinidad de titulos, generalmente son de lucha, aunque tambien ha sido presentado en generos como los RPG. En esta ocasión les hablare del primer juego de la trilogia; Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku.
We will accompany Goku throughout the saga of the Saiyans and Namek. In the first moment Goku and his son Gohan go to Master Roshi's house to see his childhood friends whom he had not seen for a long time. Unfortunately the reunion was interrupted by Saiyan and Goku's brother Raditz, one of the few survivors of the alien race. After Raditz unsuccessfully convinces Goku to destroy the planet, he kidnaps Gohan in order to train him. Goku desperately goes after him with the help of Piccolo. After defeating Raditz, Goku dies by sacrificing himself to save his son and the planet. But it is only the beginning as two extremely powerful Saiyans approach Earth. With Goku dead, his friends will search for the Dragon Spheres to revive him. Meanwhile, Goku in the underworld trains to defeat the imminent threat.
Acompañaremos a Goku a lo largo de la saga de los Saiyans y Namek. En el primer instante Goku junto a su hijo Gohan van hacia la casa del Maestro Roshi para ver a sus amigos de la infancias a los cuales tenia tiempo que no veia. Lamentablemente la reunion fue interrunpida por Saiyan y hermano de Goku, Raditz, uno de los poco sobrevivientes de la raza alienigena. Luego de que Raditz sin exito en convencer a Goku de destruir el planeta, este secuestra a Gohan con el fin de entrenarlo. Goku desesperado va tras el con la ayuda de Piccolo. Tras vencer a Raditz, Goku muere al sacrificarse para así salvar a su hijo y al planeta. Pero es solo el comienzo ya que se aproximan dos Saiyans sumamente poderosos a la tierra. Con goku muerto sus amigos se dedicaran a buscar las esferas del Dragon para revivirlo. mientras tanto Goku en el inframundo se dedica a entrenar para poder derrotar a la amenaza inmininente.
Being an action role-playing game, several licenses were taken in order to "lengthen" the story and scenarios a bit, giving them additions. The story is not completely faithful but the main events, in general, respect the events we all know.
Al ser un juego de acción de rol se tomaron varias licencias para poder "alargar" un poco la historia y los escenarios dotandolos de agregados. La historia no es completamente fiel pero los principales eventos, en general, si respetan lo sucecido que todos conocemos.
Its scenarios were lengthened in such a way that we have to advance through different areas solving secondary missions as main ones. During the journey we will encounter countless enemies, from Frezzer soldiers to some "fearsome" wolves, the latter make us notice the disappointing gameplay of this title. At the beginning of the game once you face the first enemies you will notice that they can do a lot of damage to the point that three attacks will defeat you easily. This added to the fact that we only have two attacks at our disposal; the normal one, a simple punch that doesn't lower the life of our opponent; and the special ones, which at the beginning is a simple ki attack, will break a little the idea we have of our favorite saiyan since controlling someone as strong and powerful as Goku should be easy to defeat the low level enemies found in the biomes we go through. This leaves the battle system much to be desired, since having only two attacks there is no range of strategies or combos with which to deal with large rivals and end up leaving us severely limited.
Sus escenarios fueron alargados de tal manera que tengamos avanzar recorriendo diversas zonas resolviendo misiones secundarias como principales. Durante la travesia nos encontraremos con infinidad de enemigos, desde soldados de Frezzer hasta unos "temibles" lobos, estos ultimos hacen notar la decepcionante jugabilidad que posee este titulo. Al comienzo del juego una vez que te enfrentes a los primeros enemigos notaras que pueden hacerte bastante daño a tal punto que de tres ataques te derroten facilmente. Esto sumado a que solamente disponemos de dos ataques ; el normal, un simple puñetazo que no baja mucho la vida de nuestro oponente; y los especiales, que al principio es un simple ataque de ki, nos romperá un poco la idea que tenemos de nuestro saiyan favorito ya que al controlar alguien tan fuerte y poderoso como Goku deberia ser facil derrotar a los enemigos de bajo nivel que se encuentran en los biomas que recorremos. Esto deja al sistema de batalla mucho que desear, ya que al disponer de solo dos ataques no hay una gamma de estrategias o combos con los cuales hacer frente a grandes rivales y terminan dejandonos gravemente limitados.
Likewise, when facing a final boss, given its high strength capacity that with just one hit lowers half of our life bar, the only way to win is by fleeing and launching special attacks from afar (This "strategy" should be used with almost all the bosses). And not only that, the control system is devastating because added to only 4 directions, our character runs (well, walks) extremely slow, yes, at least faster than our enemies but it is detestable when it comes to go through scenarios. This could be overlooked if it weren't for the excessive obstacles and bugs found in the biomes (such as flowers, rock edges or even the characters themselves).
Así mismo, a la hora de enfrentarnos a un jefe final, dada su altisima capacidad de fuerza que con solo un golpetazo nos baja ya media barra de vida, la unica posibilidad de ganar es huyendo y lanzando ataques especiales desde lejos (Esta "estrategia" deberemos usarla con casi todos los Jefes). Y no solo eso, el sistema de control es devastador ya que sumado a solo 4 direcciones, nuestro personaje corre (bueno, camina) extremedamente lento, si, al menos más rapido que nuestros enemigos pero es detestable a la hora de recorrer escenarios. Esto pudiera pasar de alto si no fuera por los excesivos obstaculos y bugs que se encuentran en los biomas (tales como flores, bordes de rocas o hasta los mismos personajes).
Leaving the gameplay behind, I will mention the not-so-disappointing graphics we are shown. The characters (Goku, Piccolo, Vegeta, Freezer...) are well done and easily recognizable. They are sharp, especially Goku who gives some sastifaccion in handling his sprite. As well as the scenery was full of details and elements, although somewhat lacking in quality, seeming to come out of Gameboy Color than Gameboy Advance, they are slightly digestible. Despite everything, there are a few scenes or images of decent quality taken from the anime that are included in the story that are very well received.
Dejando atrás la jugabilidad, mencionaré el apartado grafico no tan decepcionante que nos muestran. Los personajes (Goku, Piccolo, Vegeta, Freezer...) estan bien hechos y son facilmente reconocibles. Son nitidos, en especial Goku que da cierta sastifaccion en manejar su sprite. Así como el escenarios estaba llenos de detalles y elementos, aunque algo carente de calidad, parecian salidos de Gameboy Color que de Gameboy Advance, son levementes digeribles. A pesar de todo, hay unas pocas escenas o imagenes de una calidad decente sacadas del anime que se incluyen en la historia que son muy bien recibidas.
Monotonous and boring would be accurate words to describe the soundtrack. Lacking variation and somewhat saturated, it can be rather poor, mediocre but there is bound to be someone who will like it. It does not help to cause that immersive effect that is expected from the games of such a recognized franchise. A small exception is made to the melodies that sound when facing a final enemy, even though they are similar to those heard in other scenarios. This section could have been improved a lot.
Monótono y aburrido serian palabras correctas para describir el soundtrack. Carentes de variaciones y algo saturado, puede llegar a ser algo pobre, mediocre pero seguramente habrá alguien que si llegué a gustarle. No ayuda a causar ese efecto inmersivo que se espera de los juegos de una franquicia tan reconocida. Se hace una pequeña excepcion a las melodias que suenan al enfretarnos un enemigo final, aún asi a ser similares a las escuchadas en otros escenarios. Se podria haber mejorado bastante este apartado.
My conclusion is that Dragon Ball Z is a game that I would not recommend playing at all. If you want to know everything that happened in the history of Goku, then it is advisable to play all three games, even if this is the worst of the trilogy. If you are only interested in playing, having fun and enjoying a great game, it is preferable to skip this one and play the last two. This title is the proof that you learn from your mistakes and from here on they could only improve a lot more and bring us some awesome games that I will mention in my next post.
Mi conclusíon es que Dragon Ball Z es un juego que para nada recomendaria jugar. Si quieren conocer todo lo sucedido en la historia de Goku, ahí si es recomendable jugarse los tres juegos, aunque este sea el peor de la trilogia. Si solo les interesace jugar, divertirse y disfrutar de una grandioso juego, es preferible pasar de este y jugar los dos ultimos. Este titulo es la prueba de que de los errores se aprende y de aqui a adelante solo pudieron mejorar muchisimo más traernos unos impresionantes juegos que en mis proximos post les mencionaré.
