Robusta from Jember East Java

As a frequent cafe dweller, most coffee shops serves Arabica and they love highlighting that more than Robusta. There’s a reason behind that because with Arabica, it has more notes and flavor profile than Robusta which sometimes has faint notes and flavors that are alike among other Robusta grown in another places.

In the coffee world, there are divided opinion whether the soil truly affects the taste of the coffee. The one who disagree argued that there are factors like dominancy over other plants that could not really impact the taste of the coffee. But those who agree, typically believes that the region’s most dominant crops will affect how the coffee taste.

Around about a few weeks ago, I visited a small store selling various Robusta. The place is nestled in wet market and only locals and a few people know the place. The place was run by a couple who seemingly has done the business for a few years. I asked around and read through the menu list and ended up getting a Robusta from Jember that was freshly grinded and was put into a plastic bag. Though I was surprised, it was good deal for the price.

The coffee has been the base for me to make my morning vietnamese coffee as it’s something I typically drink these days. I am also mainly too lazy making v60 but despite that, the taste was really awesome and of course, it’s the caffeine content in it that perks me up. I was fairly surprised that there are also many variants of Robusta in east java that I have yet to explore. Afterall, most of the time, I am only exploring Arabica more than Robusta.
