Stoetbul
A while back, a group of friends and I decided to visit Stoetbul for their quiz night, which also happened to be an all-you-can-eat pizza and wings event. We were expecting a great night of fun and games, friendly competition, some good comfort food and well dancing - Stoetbul is of course known for their sokkies (literally translated to "socks" however a "sokkie" is also a kind of Afrikaans dance)
When you arrive, you get to choose between unlimited pizza or wings for a set price. I went with the pizza, while my husband opted for the wings. Unfortunately, neither of us were blown away. The pizza was fine, it filled the gap but didn’t exactly hit the spot, it lacked cheese and flavour and the one that came with "avocado" was just topped with a type of paste. My husband felt the same about the wings, though he admitted they were probably the better choice.
We formed our team of four and were ready to put our knowledge to the test. But frustration quickly set in. It was a first-to-buzz system, and no matter how fast we thought we were, our buzzer just didn’t seem to register. We knew the answers, but we never got the chance to say them! We managed to get just one correct answer the entire night, we were a bit bummed.
Also one of the main reasons I was excited to visit Stoetbul was for the sokkie dancing. The place is known for its lively dance floor, and I had been looking forward to it all week. But with the quiz night taking center stage, there was no dancing at all. That was the biggest disappointment of the evening for me by far.
I also usually bring my camera along for nights out, capturing all the fun of the evening. But this time, I decided to leave it at home and then regretted it all night long! I had to rely on my phone for photos, and let’s just say the results were less than amazing. Definitely not the quality I usually like to show off, which was another little letdown of the night. That being said, I hope you enjoy the pictures I did snap.
Despite the food and quiz night struggles, Stoetbul itself still had a great vibe. The décor was on point, the music was fantastic, and I couldn’t help but love the branded plastic cups they served drinks in—small details like that always make a place stand out.
All in all, it wasn’t the night I had hoped for, but it wasn’t all bad either. Maybe next time, I’ll skip quiz night and come back when the dance floor is open—and with my camera in hand!
