From pantry routine to mall cuisine; lunchtime just got exciting!
Sometimes, the best stories happen during the simplest breaks. My officemate and I recently decided to step away from our usual routine of eating in the office pantry, where the canteen offers the same familiar dishes every day. Instead, we wanted a change of scenery, a little adventure during our lunch hour. Luckily, there’s a mall just a short walk from our workplace, and inside it sits a Filipino restaurant that promised comfort food and variety.
Walking into the restaurant felt refreshing. The atmosphere was lively, with the aroma of freshly cooked Filipino dishes filling the air. The menu was packed with choices: classic viands, soups, grilled specialties, and more. Honestly, it was overwhelming in the best way possible. Each dish looked tempting, and we found ourselves debating what to order.
Here’s the funny part: as I write this, I can’t recall the exact name of the viand we finally chose. That’s how many delicious options there were! But what I do remember clearly is the satisfaction of each bite. The flavors were rich, comforting, and distinctly Filipino, reminding us of home-cooked meals but with a restaurant twist.
Beyond the food, what made the lunch memorable was the company. My officemate and I don’t always get to catch up because of our hybrid work setup. Sometimes our schedules don’t align, and we miss those casual conversations that make workdays lighter. This lunch break gave us the chance to reconnect, laugh over random topics, and share updates about life outside the office.
Eating out isn’t just about filling our stomachs. It’s about creating moments. That short escape from the office pantry gave us a sense of freedom, a chance to recharge, and a reminder that bonding doesn’t need grand plans. Even a simple meal at a nearby mall can turn into a meaningful experience.
It also made me appreciate the variety of Filipino cuisine. From savory stews to grilled favorites, there’s always something that fits your mood. And while I may have forgotten the name of our chosen dish, I’ll never forget the feeling of enjoying it with good company.
That lunch break was more than just a meal. It was a pause from routine, a chance to savor both food and friendship. Sometimes, stepping outside the office pantry is all it takes to make an ordinary day feel special. I’m already looking forward to our next food trip, wherever that may be.
