I bought a pot of Christmas Cactus the winter my daughter was one year old. I think my daughter looked like she wanted to have the strong pink one. I was happy to buy one since Christmas cactus is from my childhood memory that both my grandparents and my mother had. They had typical red flower ones though.
It was a little unusual from last year to this year. It flowered as usual last December, then in March this year, it put on buds and is now flowering again. According to Wikipedia, Christmas Cactus blooms when the daylight gets shorter. I wonder my mother who passed away recently brought the flowers to us.
I've had the plant in the same pot for years, so I'm going to transfer it to a lager pot or split it in few pots.
When it warms up this afternoon, I will plant tomato seedlings in pots. Yes, gardening season starts!
子供が1歳の冬にシャコバサボテンを一鉢買いました。シャコバサボテンは植物が好きだった祖父母や母が育てていた思い出の植物の一つです。このシャコバサボテンを買ったあと、子供の手足口病をもらって大変だったなあと毎年12月に花を咲かせるたびに思い出します。足の湿疹は剣山の上を歩いているような痛みで、顔全面に発疹が出てすごいことになり、最後に手足の皮がむけ・・・😱
ドイツではシャコバサボテンをChristmas Cuctus（クリスマスのサボテン）と呼んで、まさに名前の通りですが、日本語の名前はシャコのような茎からきているのですね。すごいネーミングセンス。お寿司屋さんで母とシャコを頼んで「モンスターみたいだけど美味しいね」なんて言いながら食べました。
去年から今年にかけては少し異例で、去年の12月に例年通り花を咲かせたあと、今年の3月に入って蕾をつけて、今また花を咲かせています。ちょうど母が亡くなった頃に花を咲かせ始めて、偶然だとは思うものの、何か言わんとしているような気もします。Wikipediaには、日照時間が短くなると開花すると書いてあり、日照時間は季節に合わせて長くなっていっていたはずなのだけど・・・。
もう何年も同じ鉢に植っているので、花が落ち着いたら株を分けてのびのびさせようと思います。葉っぱの埃もとってあげないと。
午後暖かくなったらトマトの苗を鉢に植えようと思います。ばたばたしているうちにずいぶん伸びてしまいました 😅
