Lately, my days has been full (for my standard 😉) with business trips, workshops, and various outings, so I hadn’t really had the chance to slowly enjoy my mornings on the balcony watering and seeing plants with a cup of coffee. But finally, today I could!
The strawberries that were still flowering not so long ago have already grown quite large, and I can really feel the season moving forward. The strawberries on my balcony keep producing fruit for a long time every year — sometimes even until December — and this year seems to be an especially good one with so many berries growing.
These balcony strawberries were planted together with my child in memory of my mother, who passed away three years ago in spring. Somehow, it feels as if she is sending strawberries for us… though at the same time, they are growing so vigorously that they are starting to take over the entire balcony. At the end of the season, I think I’ll transplant part of them into the garden again.
The runner beans, which had been waiting to germinate under the balcony table because I didn’t have enough space for seedlings, suddenly sprouted and stretched up before I noticed. So tomorrow I’ll bring them to the garden and plant them there. This was another vegetable my mother loved very much.
The chards that I’m temporarily growing along the edge of pots as seedlings are also doing quite well. I learned this low-effort seedling method from videos Netherlands-based gardener Vera Greutink. Once they become large enough to withstand the slugs, I’ll transplant them into bigger pots and bring them to the garden.
Ah… it's so nice to enjoy slow morning on the balcony.

このところ、出張やWS、出かける予定が私にしては詰まっていて、なかなか朝バルコニーでゆっくりしてコーヒーを飲んでといった時間を取れずにいましたが、今日ようやく。
ついこの前まではまだ花を咲かせていたいちごの実がもうずいぶん大きくなっていて、季節が進んでいるのを感じました。バルコニーのいちごは、毎年長いと12月まで実をつけてくれて、今年はさらに当たり年のようでたくさん実がなっています。涼しかった春の気候も良かったのかな？無理せずがんばってねと見守ろうと思います。
このバルコニーのいちごは、3年前に他界した母との思い出に子供と植えたもので、母がドイツにいちごを届けてくれているようでしみじみ・・・・・・・が、ものすごく元気でバルコニーを埋め尽くしつつあり、シーズンの終わりには、また一部を残して庭に移植しようと思っています 😉
育苗スペースが足りず、バルコニーのテーブルの下で発芽するのを待っていたランナービーンの苗は気づいたら発芽して背が伸びていたので、明日庭に植えてきます。これまた母が大好きだった野菜です。
一時的に鉢の端に植えて育苗しているチャードも良い感じ。この手間をかけない育苗方法は大好きなオランダ在住のガーデナーのVera Greutinkさんの動画で学びました。ナメクジに負けないくらいの大きくなったら鉢に移して、庭に持って行こうと思っています。
ああ、それにしても、朝の静かな時間にゆっくり植物を眺めながら、コーヒーを飲みながらの水やりって、いい時間ですね。
