One of the things I enjoy the most in my spare time is tending to my garden. In it I not only have beautiful ornamental and medicinal plants, but also the occasional fruit plant. At present I am trying to harvest my own milky to prepare the sweets that I like to sell at Christmas, and sometimes also during the year, but at this moment I am enjoying my banana harvest.
I planted this plant more than a year ago when it was very small, it was a child of another plant that I had already had. And it was not until November 2022 that he gave me a beautiful bunch of bananas. Little by little I have been learning about how to sow and harvest this fruit, and with my little knowledge I have succeeded because this is the 4th harvest that I have achieved.

To fertilize my banana plants, I usually prepare my own compost bin with waste materials from the kitchen. This has been very productive since the plants not only gave fruit but also have many children at their base.
Among the things I learned to harvest bananas are the following tips:
1.- The plant that bears fruit will dry out as the cluster forms.
2.- The bunch with its weight can cause the plant to fall, so a fork or support rod must be placed on it so that it remains standing at least until the bunch is ready to be removed.
3.- The cluster is removed when the leaves turn yellowish or completely dry, and the cocoon is completely dry.

4.- To remove it, the acorn, which is the cocoon that hangs below, is cut off, then the bunch is placed in a plastic bag, tied, cut and placed tilted on the floor to release the sap.

5.- The bag is placed in a warm place so that they mature faster.
6.- Within a week the bananas begin to turn yellowish, and in a couple of days they are fully ripe.

7.- Those that are ripe are separated from those that are not yet

This hand of banana is from a previous harvest.

Thank you very much for visiting my blog, it will be until another opportunity that I share more activities in my garden. Happy day!!
