HI folks,
Today this post is a little different. It's about growing daffodils. The setting is the family home where my parents live (across the ditch in NZ). This year, my mum donated hundreds of daffodils to the local cancer council so they could be sold and the profits went to cancer research.

- A tour of our garden which we are trying to get up and running
THE DAFFODIL FIELDS
My mum did not plant these daffodils they were planted 100 years ago. I bet the owners of the house at the time would be AMAZED at how they have grown and bloomed since the field was planted. Apparently there are old varieties in there that you can't easily find these days. Its like history in a garden.
The fields are down one side of the property and in winter they are either under snow or look bare and dead.
I have included a few photos of them as the are and were so you can see the difference
Here they are:

Can you believe the change over the year... How different the view (yes there are some older photos before they did some heavy chopping...)
Fancy a seat?

Daffodils
I guess the chill of winter that they get really helps them bloom so nicely in the spring.
These have been multiplying for decades. Its such a fantastic spot. My mother, who is a much more prolific gardener than i ever will be, is obsessed with beautiful flowers. We have always had nice flowers in our gardens. She has won competitions had open gardens and every thing.
hopefully some of her work will run off on myself.
For us, as you know we are trying to turn our CONCRETE and small area of grass into VEGETABLES... lol. Its a far cry from the land my parents have. (So envious)
OUR GARDEN THIS WEEK
well its almost embarrassing to show our garden this week..
The Flowers
THE VEGETABLE GARDENS
As you can see we are working with "what we have" and planting on concrete. Its into spring and things are moving. I'm trying to garden but i have a dodgy buggered up hand making life hard and i need a spare set when i'm in the garden.
I have left a lot to go to seed as the native bees are LOVING the flowers.
CLOSE UP PHOTOS
The chili bush is finally dying.... sigh... might try a repot.. but see how we go...
