A cacophony of alarm resounded across the homestead. The snake alarm!! The warning was taken up by children and dogs as all eyes scanned the trees for the snake. The hysterical birds quickly directed us to the almond tree. Casually gliding into a nest was a massive Boomslang - tree snake.
The parent birds were joined by all feathered friends who made rather a formidable army of flying feathers and high pitched chirping. The Boomslang - all 1.5 metres of snake - seemed unperturbed. His head buried in the nest while the beautiful long body lay draped through the branches. However after a shot was fired he quickly made up his mind to evacuate Buckaroo territory.
The morning's gardening activities soon resumed after the adrenaline rush subsided. The birds continued to twitter nervously for long after all signs of the slithering threat was gone. The BuckarooBabies are still twittering in excitement. FarmerBuckaroo and I praying grateful thanks that our feathered alarm system warned us and that we were able to chase away the threat to both man and ... bird....
