Hello my Hive people! I hope you are very well, I have been away from my blog for many situations, but the important thing is that I am back and with renewed strength. Today, walking around my garden, I found my Chinese chives in bloom, with a little flower that is a beauty, and I have decided to talk about this super useful plant for the kitchen. The Chinese chives or Chinese garlic, is widely used in Asian kitchens, for its contribution to the food of a very subtle flavor, similar to garlic.
Garlic chives are a fast spreading perennial type plant, a bulbous seedling, with flat green leaves, and when they bloom, they are topped with beautiful little white flowers. They are very similar to the onion and chive plant, their size varies, some reaching up to 30 cm in height. To conserve these bushes as a long-lasting crop, the leaves should be harvested individually when needed. It also tolerates periods of drought and progresses vigorously with regular watering of the garden.
What do you eat from garlic chives?
The whole plant can be used, it can be eaten raw, as it can be cut into thin slices to complete soups, salads or sautéed vegetables. Likewise, they amplify the flavor of omelets, minced meat, fried fish, savory pies or stuffed vegetables.
The flavor of Chinese chives is incomparable, it is sweet and at the same time perfumed with garlic. It is advisable that once cut, it should be consumed quickly, as its fragrance dissipates quickly.
Due to its natural qualities, Chinese chives are a great supplement to accompany a variety of recipes, as well as to maintain a healthy lifestyle, since it is rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and folic acid. In addition, it helps regulate cholesterol levels in the blood and promotes the proper functioning of the circulatory system. At the same time, it is appreciated as a natural antioxidant, which is why it is very good for preventing the propagation of some bacteria and fungi, and because of this it is an invaluable ally when it comes to repel colds and flus.
How to preserve Chinese chives.
Like many aromatic plants, they get damaged very quickly and to enjoy it to the maximum, it is necessary to take measures for its conservation, that is why it is recommended to keep it in a cool place, such as the refrigerator. One option is to keep the garlic chives in a paper bag or absorbent kitchen paper, sprinkled with water beforehand, and then put them in the refrigerator. Finally, there is another way to preserve it, and that is to store it in the freezer, for this, you can slice it in small pieces or cut it in small portions, and this way it will be available whenever you feel like using it.
I hope that my participation has been to your liking, I did it with much affection, and I hope you take advantage of the information I share in my post, I feel very blessed that you give me a moment of your valuable time. super grateful to you!
