Hello to all the wonderful gardeners in the Hive Garden community! I hope everyone is enjoying gardening journey. Today, I want to share an inspiring about my brother’s cabbage farm. This story is not just about planting, its about hard work and learning from experience.
My brother’s farm is located at the top of our mountain. Wick makes accessing it a challenge. Carrying seeds, tools and sometimes water uphill requires determination and persistence. Despite the difficulty, he decided to plant cabbage there, showing how passion and effort can overcome any obstacle.
He started by planting one can of cabbage seeds and the process was far from easy. Since this area is a newly cleared, the spoil was fresh, loose and full of nutrients, ideal for growing cabbage. Preparing the land required removing grass, roots and debris manually. Once the soil was cleared, it was loosened, leveled and divided into rows, Proper spacing was important to give each plant enough room to grow wide leaves a d from strong heads.
The seeds were first grown in a small seedbed until the seedlings became strong enough to transplant. Transplanting was done carefully, early in the morning to protect the delicate seedlings from strong sun and wind. Being at the top of the field, exposure to sunlight and wind is higher, making timing and care very important.
As the cabbages grew, maintenance became daily routine. He removed weeds, monitored for pests, and fertilized with composts every month. Because the land is new, pest problem was minimal, and the plants thrived naturally. The cabbage eventually grew big, firm and healthy proving that consistent acre and proper soil management make a big difference.
His cabbage farm proves that even difficult and remote land can be productive when guided by dedication and hard work. It is a reminder to all gardeners that success does not always come easily, but with passion the result is deeply rewarding.
This experience taught me valuable lessons about patience and resilience. Farming is not just about planting and waiting. It requires daily attention and care. Every stage of growth demands effort and every mistake becomes a learning opportunity. Seeing the cabbages grow successfully on such challenging land reminded me that nature rewards those ho respect and work with it.
During the harvest time, the cabbages were heavy, fresh and high in quality. Each head was firm and green, showing the success of proper care. In the market cabbage is now priced at 55 pesos or 1HBD per kilo, making it a valuable crop. Cabbage is widely used in many dishes making it always in demand.
Because cabbage is used in many eateries, malls food business, demand remains strong. From soups and stir fries o salad and side dishes, cabbage is affordable, nutritious and practical making it one of the most commonly used vegetables in the market.
