Hello, my dear friends and fellow gardeners!
Life can be incredibly busy when we wear many hats like as a mom, a farmer, and a freelancer all at once. But even with a full schedule, I make sure that I never forget one of the things that brings me so much joy and purpose: planting organic vegetables for our family’s consumption.
I may not have a perfect schedule, but I believe that even small efforts count. So even if it’s a few seeds at a time, I plant different vegetables in our backyard garden to make sure we have a variety to harvest. Right now, I have cucumbers, chili, string beans, okra, winged beans and squash growing.
Just a few days ago, I planted 18 seeds of squash, carefully placing them in the plastic containers and pot. I also sowed string beans using seeds from my previous harvest, I simply dried the and planted the, again. I love the idea that something we grew and eat before can now give us new life in the garden. That’s the beauty of organic gardening, it feels like a full circle of care and sustainability.
As a mom, I make sure to involve my child in everything I do. It’s a great bonding moment for us and at the same time, it teaches my little one about responsibility and the importance of planting. I let my child help me put soil into the seedling cellophanes. It might look like playtime, but to me, it’s an investment, I’m planting the seeds of knowledge in my child’s heart, so one day they will love framing and nature just as much as I do.
Gardening, however, is not always easy when you have so many other things to juggle. There are days when I cannot even visit the backyard garden, even though its just behind our farmhouse. Between housework, freelance task and being a full-time mom, time can easily slip away. But I make sure to visit at least four times a week, even it just for a short while, So I can water the plants, remove weeds and check their growth.
It may seem simple to some, but this little garden is a big help to us. We get to eat fresh pesticide- free vegetables right from our backyard. Even better, I get to share these vegetables with my in-laws and neighbors. There is something truly fulfilling about giving away food that you have grown with your own hands. It’s my small way of sharing blessing with others.
One of my happiest moments this week was seeing my sigarilyas blooming. Those tny flowers remind me that patience and care always pay off.
One of my happiest moments this week was seeing my winged beans blooming. Those tiny flowers remind me that patience and care always pay off. Soon, we will be harvesting again, and I can’t wait to cool fresh dishes straight from the garden for my family.
Being a farmer, a mom and a freelancer is challenging, bit these this small accomplishment keep me going. Gardening is not just about producing food. It’s also about nurturing life, teaching values, and staying connected with nature no matter how busy we get,
To all my fellow gardeners and farmers: never stop planting! No matter how small your garden is, or how little time you have, every seed you sow us a step toward a healthier and more meaningful life.
