Farming is not just what I do, it is the life I live every single day. On our farm, we grow rice, sugarcane, coconut and banana. These are not crops that give fast rewards. They require long waiting, constant care and strong patience. I experienced firsthand how these crops tested my strength, my faith and my understanding of hard work, but they also become the reason our family survives and moves forward.
Rice is where everything begins for us. I remember waking up early to prepare seedbeds, carefully planting seedlings and later transplanting the, under scorching sun. There were days when my back ached and my hands were covered in mud. Watching the rice grow took months, and every storm made me anxious. When the heavy rain came, I feared losing everything, but when harvest time arrived and I saw sacks of rice ready to feed my family, I felt deep gratitude. Rice taught me discipline and if you stop caring even for a day, it shows in the harvest. That’s why I’m blessed with my husband who is always taking care of it.
Sugarcane taught me patience in the hardest way. After planting, there is nothing to do but wait, maintain the field and trust the soil. Months passed without income from it. Sometimes I doubted if the effort was worth it. But when harvest finally came the income helped us pay important expenses. Sugarcane showed me that slow progress does not mean failure. Some blessings simply take longer.
Coconut farming tested my faith the most. When we planted coconut trees. I knew there would be no immediate return. Years passed before they started producing properly. Many people do not realize how long farmers wait for coconuts. Now, those same trees provide us with steady harvests. Every time I collect coconuts, I am reminded that long term, effort pays off. We harvesting coconut twice a month. Coconut trees taught me to think about the future, not just today.
Banana plants gave us quicker harvests, but they also brought constant worry. Strong winds, pests, and diseases could destroy them overnight. I experienced losing banana plants after storms, and it was painful. Still, we replanted, Bananas helped us with regular income and taught me resilience, even we fall, we stand up and start again. This is the crop with less maintenance.
Harvesting these four crops shaped me as who I am as a farmer. I learned patience, hard work and trust in God’s timing. Framing is not easy but it is honest work. The long waiting season are painful but when the harvest finally comes, it reminds me that every sacrifice was worth it.
