Saturday morning the last thing I wanted to do was clean out the trash shed, but needs, must…. So I got busy at 10AM when it had warmed up some. We had some sun and it was to be in the 40’s.
I finished at 10:45 with 5 bags of trash and 2 of recycle and rested until my son got up at 11:30 to go with me to the dump. I got some lunch and rested about 20 minutes and my helper friend showed up at 12:45. We were doing the inventory.
I do an inventory each year and then get the orders in for the things I need. This year, I’m not sure how much I can afford as I’ve heard fertilizers are through the roof. I have stockpiles of most things, but some things I use too much of, like bloodmeal or kelp or Bulb and FlowerTone, to keep in stock.
First thing was to get the totes out of the Tonka garage. Left to right: 2 blue totes of dry compost, 3 totes of amendment mix for the Little Trees and the New Herb garden, 2 empty totes for the Big and Small garden mixes. They all have tags on their handles for identification.
First we did all the trash cans, then we worked on the 4 piles of bags on the pallets. Then we did the 5 gallon buckets and put the whole mess back into the shed.
Then we moved to the garden shed where I have a few things stored under the big shelf.
Then we went to the cellar and uncovered the bags of soil to count and counted the seedling trays.
Next we counted the 2 cases of 3” and 4” peat pots and all the tray covers. The tray covers are now very old and many are broken. I think replacing them is the next investment I must make.
Above the pots are shelves with all the heat mats. We inventoried them and all the controllers and timers.
I had gotten a lot of new seed starting equipment and I wanted to be sure of what I had, so we counted all the light fixtures too.
Last were the large jugs of liquid amendment for feeding seedlings.
I realized after we were done (it took 2 hours) that I had forgotten to count the trays and covers in the clean room, waiting to be washed up. I’ll have to do that one day soon.
I was really exhausted by then but still had to speak with the contractor when he came at 3PM. But mostly I laid on the couch and watched Call the Midwife until bedtime.
