Notes on setting up shelving
On Friday morning I wasn’t up until just before 6AM. I got my post up, made a shopping order, cleaned up the kitchen, and did some other chores while waiting for the Senior van to exercise class.
I sat down to rest a while when I got home, then got my notes on setting up the shelving out and started figuring out what I needed for the porch and roundtop.
Because I would have the 2 new windows, I needed to know how many light fixtures and bulbs I had. So I got out last year’s inventory but the new ones weren’t on it. So I had to go back through my records.
But I’d not made a note of how many bulbs and what type I had bought. We’d just have to go through what was down there and count it. So I printed out a new inventory sheet for this year to record what we found.
When my #3 helper arrived at 12:30PM, I sent her out on errands and I sat down and mended the 3 window shades. I put them on the arms of the desk chair, much to someone’s annoyance.
I had just finished the last one when she got back. We got the shopping put away and she vacuumed the first floor while I put the repaired shades up. This job is nearly done. I just have to take the 2 broken ones in to be repaired.
Then we went down to the old cellar and I started pulling out all the equipment on the lists. We’d counted the bulbs first though. She brought it all upstairs. It sure trashed the living room!
The first thing we had to do was find a place for all the plants in the roundtop window. Most of them moved to behind my chair in the office.
I decided to get the frame for the roundtop put together first. We got that done, the light fixture hung and working, and were starting on the heat mat when it was time for her to go.
I’d discovered the wrong heat mat was in the box, so I got it changed out, but ran out of energy to finish putting it in place.
I got the birds fed and started pulling shades, and then made supper. I decided to watch ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ before bed. I didn’t start the stoves until 7PM because we’d had bright sun all day and the house was very warm. I finally headed to bed around 9:30PM.
On Saturday I need to pot up the little African violet as the special soil had arrived. I’ve got the kitchen to clean up, and my #1 intern and I will be setting up all the shelving, putting biology into all the new seeds and putting them in the correct bags for each starting time. There may be some covers to get washed too. Then we need to clean up the mess and put it away in the cellar. That ought to finish us both off, but we’ll be ready to start seeds on Sunday.
