On Saturday morning we’d gotten a dusting of snow.
But by Sunday morning it was nearly all gone.
had asked for garden photos, so I set out on Sunday morning to show the gardens and farm before the next storm started Sunday night.
You can see there’s a good amount of green here and there, unheard of in late January around here.
In the New West garden next to the front steps, the Sweet William has been growing all winter. Just above it are the 2 vents for the gas hot water heater and that creates a little micro climate in this immediate area.
The New South garden still has a good amount of green but has no help or protection. The white iris, another Sweet William, geranium, and daisy mum all have green still.
Under the azalea there’s another little well protected area. The lamium is still growing in there.
In the Big garden there’s no sign of the garlic (red flags on right) but the dianthus on center left is still doing fine. Most everything else has died back.
In the Small garden, some of the white iris have green but that and the daylilies are all that’s in there.
The middle pasture still has green growth under the old stuff.
The front pasture is even more green, especially along the driveway.
There’s not much along the little trees right now.
The morning looked rather gloomy from the barn on Sunday.
As I shot closer and closer the sky seemed to lighten in the photos.
The middle pasture didn’t look so green either.
The back 40 has got enough green growing that I see deer out there more often than not. Hopefully they prefer that to the gardens and stay back there…
So that’s the gardens and farm the 3rd week of January, just before what might be a real snowstorm on Sunday into Monday.
