Monday not much happened except the above harvest. It was a gorgeous day but I had appointments and just did laundry and dishes. It was probably just as well, as I’d had some hard days over the weekend. It was sort of a rest day.
Tuesday was another gorgeous day and I was out in the New Herb garden by 6:45AM. I picked up where I left off on Saturday.
The spotted mint in Row 5 was covered with bees and pollinators.
I started, again, down at the west end of Row 1 and started weeding, deadheading, and pruning. I filled 4 sleds in this row. Once it was done, I was finally able to rake the row neatly and put the rakings under the azalea.
I am still amazed at the astragalus. It not only survived the winter when several more hardy plants did not, but it is now flowering and doing excellently.
As I clean both sides of the walkways as I move down them, half of Row 2 had been done already. This time I started at the east end of Row 2 and worked west. I was also cleaning out the south side of Row 3 as I went.
I only got 2 sleds out of this row. It took a long time as there was a lot of deadheading to do on the Echinacea purpurea and the 2 bee balms. It was around 11AM when I reached the end of Row 3 and I was getting pretty tired. But the humidity was low and at least I could breathe well.
I am almost caught up to where I was the first of July before the sciatica. Once I plant and mulch Row 2, and plant and mulch Row 3, I can rake the #2 walkway and that will be finished. I will be caught up.
End of Row 2 with chicory and the fairy
I still have to deal with all the peppermint and pineapple mint in the walkways around Row 3, next. Once I get past that, this is what’s next. Sigh….
So I got my notes and photos and cleaned up and went in for a shower.
My helper friend had arrived at 9:30AM and his big job was to get the garlic out of the woodshed alcove and cleaned up to store. You can see there are very few large bulbs. We still have to bag it and store it in the old root cellar.
I had 2 appointments in the afternoon so not a lot of rest. My helper friend had gone out on errands for me.
I heard a car arrive and the next thing I know there’s a guy with a clipboard knocking at the door. He was wearing the electric company shirt and I could see the logo on the truck. BUT… he wanted to read my meter… What?
The meters have been read by wi-fi or some such for years. But I wasn’t letting him in the house and the meter was around back. So he went around the house. Next thing I know he’s standing in front of the meter, staring.
So I went to the back door and asked if the wi-fi had broken or what. He said it looked like the main meter had crapped out. He wanted to replace it right then, but I said no as no power would mean no phones and I had a phone appointment shortly.
So he said he’d have them call for an appointment. I said that there really was a stone walkway to the meter and I would clean out that North Corner garden before they came, so they could get to it.
So another job on the list.
It’s to start raining during the night and rain until Thursday morning, so no garden work on Wednesday. I also closed the house up to hold what heat there was as it was to be cool throughout. And I was in bed by 8:30PM.
Wednesday I’ve not decided what I’m doing. There’s no shortage, starting with finally finishing the bills/budget for this month, dishes, laundry, feeding house plants, and myriad other inside jobs. And PT in the afternoon.
