So Hivegarden’s QOTW was “Draw us a garden map” and that sent me down a HUGE rabbit hole. I just spent 7 hours compiling a map of the whole yard. I’d started drawing one years ago but never finished.
Also asked was “tell us one thing you like about the layout, and one thing you'd change.”
I do the 3 big garden plans every year. If you want to see what’s in them this year:
Big garden: https://gardenplanner.motherearthnews.com/garden-plans/1965673
Small garden: https://gardenplanner.motherearthnews.com/garden-plans/1977530
New Herb garden: https://gardenplanner.motherearthnews.com/garden-plans/1990942
So I started collecting all the little graph paper plans I had made and sat down and got them all collected on one page and everything (I hope) labeled. (Nope, forgot to label the Wildflower area on top of the septic system….)
I don’t usually post large photos but both of these will enlarge a bit, I hope. I don’t know if you will be able to read each of the fruit trees in both Little Trees areas. But I’ve done lots of posts on them….
The whole yard is about ¾ of an acre. I like that the herb garden and veg gardens are close to the house. The pasture garden (which Tom says he’s going to get going THIS YEAR) is a bit farther away. It will allow a much better rotation/resting system if he manages to do it.
In retrospect, I would not have planted the 3 trees there by the Big garden. They give too much shade in summer. Other than that, I’m pretty happy with the set up.
So that’s the gardens at Golden Oak farm.
