On Saturday morning I was up around 5AM and got my posts up. Then I closed up the house and headed to the gardens around 6:15AM. Remember the 3rd walkway I had been dreading? That was the goal for the day.
So I set to work on the west end of it and worked my way into the peppermint mess. Tom arrived at 7:30AM without #3 intern, who was sick. So I stopped and showed Tom how to do the foliar feeding. I had to stop every so often as he moved from garden to garden and then started the milk feeding.
I was not only cleaning out the walkway, but also weeding the half of each garden on the sides as I went. So Row 3 is now ready to plant and Row 4 half weeded. Walkway 4 is just as bad as 3 was as it’s the other side of the peppermint bed plus has pineapple mint at the end, so another dreaded job….
Tom and I finished about the same time and went inside to rest and talk. It was a perfect summer’s day, 70’s, a breeze, sunny, very nice. But I was just too tired from yanking out peppermint roots.
I’ve tried several times to get a photo of the maiden pinks before they went by. But each attempt has been blurry. This was the best I’ve managed so far, but not as good as I’d like.
When Tom left I got a shower and rested a while. I got some lunch and was suddenly very tired. I was about to head to bed when everyone was up or back home, so I waited until it quieted down before heading to bed.
Late afternoon my son got some of the yard weedwacking done before he left to go to see fireworks.
Evening on July 4th
I got up about 7PM and got this post written. I don’t know how soon I’ll be able to get to sleep. I’ve been dealing with a nasty prickly heat on my shoulder and neck and hope it resolves soon. It’s been several days now. I’ll probably take something to abate the symptoms so I can sleep.
On Saturday Tom and maybe my #3 intern will be here to help me get the tobacco netting over the Little Trees II. We’ve never done it before and Tom says it catches on every little protrusion. We’ve a sort of a plan…
I also have to go to the dump but will have to find out if it’s open before emptying the shed. I’ll have Tom drive me over at 8AM to see… It’s to be a little hotter but still a pretty nice day.
