Thinning celery
On Monday morning I wasn’t moving too fast. I didn’t get up until 6:30AM and I got my post up. Then I started checking the seedlings for light height, correct placement in windows, and if they needed thinning.
Once I got all that done, I sat down for a while. Next I got the dishes done in the kitchen and sat down again.
Next I needed to water the seedlings. The ones without covers I can use the pitchers and it’s much faster. The ones still with covers I have to use the orange cans. I leave one filling in the sink as I empty one. Makes less standing I have to do. Once that was done I sat down again until lunch time.
Once lunch was done, I sat until 1PM and got up to finish the seed starting. I had 5 I had to do. I’d set the pots to soak when I was watering and that speeded it up some. I got them done and in their respective windows and all the shelving was full.
I sat down for an hour then got up to clean up the kitchen. All the cabinets and surfaces in the vicinity have to be wiped down as the soil is very dry and dusty. Then I put everything back in place and the kitchen was tidy again.
This is supposed to be the April 1 starting, but when one has help…. I still have 2 more to start. The Sweet Annie had to go into the freezer for a few days but we set up pots for it in the tarragon tray. The Bible plant/Costmary seed never arrived and I’ve ordered more and it should be here in a few days. That will go in pots set up in the foxglove tray.
I went in and lay down on the couch and watched more ‘The Darling Buds of May’ until supper time. It was a beautiful afternoon, but I was too exhausted to go outside.
My #2 intern showed up after supper to have dancing practice with my #1 intern. They are taking salsa lessons on Thursday nights. So there was dancing in the kitchen while cooking their supper.
It was very warm; the front porch liar said it was 72F at 7PM so I didn’t light small fires until 8PM. It’s to be 50’s during the night and rain. But it’s to hit mid 60’s in the afternoon on Tuesday so I wanted the fires out by then.
On Tuesday the wood guy’s helper is supposed to be here at 8AM and we are going to pick up the 4” x 4” posts for the woodshed. It’s to be raining, so I don’t know if he will come or not.
My helper friend arrives at 10:30AM and he has chores and errands to do. I don’t know what else I’ll have him do. I’m hoping to be able to get out to the gardens in the afternoon.
