Waiting for more snow…
On Sunday morning I was up around 6AM and got one post up. When I pulled up the shades, the forecast 2” of snow hadn’t started. Tom arrived about 8:30AM to finish the birdhouses. He got the last one done but didn’t have time to go find back supports for putting them up. The boards are up in the loft of the barn. So he will do that next time.
I started editing photos for my second post when my #1 intern came down. So I had to stop and get ready for the day, clean up the kitchen and start getting stuff collected for seed starting.
The snow never did arrive and the sun came out early. So the house was plenty warm.
The form on the left is the starting chart I made last week. The ones on the right are notes for each plant and how to start them. I have a bucket of re-usable markers that I clean off and write the new name on. And of course, the big box of sorted seeds.
My #1 intern wasn’t feeling so good and a little while later her sister, my #2 intern, arrived with food for her. Between the 3 of us we got the seeds started.
I had made a big mistake in planning the storage onions. I’d forgotten I’d started putting them individually in 3” pots vs 3 of them in a 4” pot. They had done much better last year in 3” pots. I had planned for the 4” pots and as a result I needed 3 more trays as individual pots take up a lot more room.
Our original number of trays had only been 5⅖and then it jumped to 9. Then I realized I had a lot of seed going into the fridge to stratify, 2 more trays worth. So in the end we used 11 trays.
The violas prefer to germinate in darkness, so I cover the dome with foil until they come up.
What I started:
We got the mess cleaned up, the trays watered, and the 2 girls headed out for a walk in the sunshine.
Cellar fridge with beef corning on top shelf, and 2 trays of seeds stratifying
I headed to my chair to get my feet up and rest. Later on I got up and got laundry started. Then there were shades to pull and 2 fires to start. It was to drop to 7F during the night and barely into the 20’s during the day on Monday. But it would be sunny.
I have exercise class on Monday, laundry to finish, a lampshade to repair, the kitchen to clean up, and an appointment in the afternoon. I also have 2 birthday cards to make.
