Wednesday was a total washout. I think I stood too long talking to the sheep guy on Tuesday evening. On Thursday I buckled down and got started on the bills/budget. I was very closely supervised. I worked until 11:30AM when I got a shower and ready for the day.
I had a replacement helper as #4 helper is on vacation. I sent the replacement shopping, and then had her do some cleaning. I just sat and rested and later I started a new series, ‘My Favorite Martian’.
No fire, just pulled the shades. In bed by 8:30PM.
I was up at 5AM on May Day and set to work on the bills/budget and finished around 10:30AM. I got dressed and ready for my #3 helper who arrived at 12:30PM.
I sent her to the bank and when she got back, I had her wash up the 9 trays I’d need for seed starting on Saturday.
I went out and got started pruning off all the winter kill on the white lilac. It has flower buds now.
Next I pruned winter kill off the spirea. I raked up the wood chips back around the shrubs. By this time, my #3 helper had finished the trays.
I asked her to finish the weeding in the New West garden alcove and she did some in the garden proper. Next we loaded 4 totes into the car and went up and got wood chips for around the shrubs. We had to make another trip for 1 more tote to finish.
, the candytuft no longer has red stems. It might have been stressed by the deep cold when I took the first photo.
We also put some around the east lilacs.
Then we went over and finally finished the weeding of the New West garden. When I weeded it in March the ground was still partially frozen so I couldn’t get the weed roots out. They had come back up.
I have finally finished the gardens I hoped to do. I still have 3 on the north side of the house to do but the next thing is to clean up the Big garden and get the pea fences up and the peas planted.
When I was getting my photos, I saw the buds had come out on the MacIntosh apple tree.
Once my notes were done and photos too, and she had cleaned up all the equipment, we sat under the crabapple until she had to go.
I went in and laid down on the couch to watch “My Favorite Martian’. I pulled the shades at 8PM and asked my son to light small fires later on in the night as it was to drop to 39F and rain all day on Saturday.
First day of May afternoon
On Saturday I have seed starting, only 9 trays. My #1 intern will be helping me. I have to finally get a post up and will probably spend the rest of the day resting. I have windows to do on Sunday with my brother.
