On Sunday morning I went out and got set up in the Big garden. I finally got planting at 6:30AM. The basil was first with spinach at the far end. The spinach was seeded as I’ve found it hates being in the house. I was taking a big chance planting basil so early, but we will see. Last frost is May 31…
I know, I just posted a photo of the azalea yesterday, but it was so pretty in the sunlight… and I was working right next to it.
Once the basil was mulched, the next row was parsley and balsam. I had to stop about here because my brother was checking out the brakes on the truck and needed me to push the pedal.
He went back to the barn to finish checking the brakes (not good, needs major brake job) and I went back to planting.
I’d almost finished with mulching the last row when he got done with the truck. I’d asked him to help me get 20 more bales of mulch from the barn, so we did that.
The last 2 rows were seeded, green beans first, then lima beans. I didn’t mulch the other side of the limas because the space between rows wouldn’t leave room for planting the next row. It was 11AM and I’d had enough, so I cleaned up and got a shower. The Big garden is ⅓ planted.
After finishing the truck, my brother had started weedwacking the front 2 pastures. He finished about 12:30PM. Later my son went out to weedwack and he got another part of the wood area done before he ran out of string. I’m going to have to make a trip across the river to get him more string and gas.
I know again, I just posted the blue flag iris last week, but they are all open and pretty and again, I was working right next to them.
I rested, had some lunch and went to bed. I got up about 5:30PM and got the 3rd post of the day up. Because I’d slept late, I didn’t get to bed on time.
Storm clouds move in on Sunday night
On Monday it’s to rain all day so I will do laundry, clean the kitchen (a real disaster), restart the seedlings that didn’t come up, write the plant notes from Sunday, and my brother and I plan to make parsnip chowder for supper.
