On Saturday a woman I met at the Senior Center brought me to the Mt. Holyoke College Bulb Show. We got there early and were the first ones in the door.
Oh, the heavenly scent that greeted us! We went down the right side first and there was such a riot of color along the glass walls! There’s a center island and it is set up with all kinds of different plants. And the water feature at the end added a nice sound to the room.
The left side wasn’t quite the bright riot of color but had beautiful groupings of pink and yellows.
We went around twice but by then it was really crowded. So we headed out to the other greenhouses. We came back through again later and there was no one in the bulb area.
Opposite the entry door is the house with the pond. The duckweed had water droplets on it and they glistened like diamonds. Behind the pond house is another small greenhouse and then the big greenhouse behind that.
I love going in this house because of the different textures and types of plants. I like looking for the bananas and seeing how many cacao pods there are. There had to be 25+ of the pods.
There was a new large bench in the middle and after we went around the second time, we sat on it for while. Then we went back through the bulb area (deserted) and onto the cactus house.

After that we went into the student’s house to see what they were starting. Throughout we could hear the tick-tick of sleet hitting the glass as there had been snow showers when we were waiting for the Show to open.
It was so pleasant to be in the warm houses and know the cold weather was outside. We were there about an hour and then headed back to my house. It was a lovely way to spend a cold winter’s day.
